Oiso Prince Hotel

Oiso Prince Hotel

[Project Summary] This project renovates the existing guest room building ahead of the new building, which will open in July 2017 and house the hot spring and spa facility "THERMAL SPA S.WAVE". We aimed to create a seaside resort facility that combines the familiarity of Oiso, a historic villa area, with the newness that will lead to the new building. [Client's Challenge] The theme was to renovate the existing accommodation building to increase the overall appeal of the facility while harmonizing with the hot spring and spa building project already underway. Another challenge was to transform this facility, which was focused on the summer season because it is adjacent to Oiso Long Beach, into a year-round resort hotel. [Solution] We renovated the hotel in Oiso, the birthplace of Shonan, based on the concept of "Shonan Luxury," where you can spend a day relaxing and luxuriously while feeling the sea and the breeze, and aimed to create the "resort hotel closest to the city" that not only has a pool, but also tennis courts, a golf course, and a bowling alley. The entrance hall, lobby, party room, and restaurant areas were gently partitioned to create a breeze-filled space, allowing the space to be renovated into a resort space where you can feel the ocean no matter where you are. <Our project members> [Project management/sales] Kogure Masanori, Omomo Kae [design, layout] Taibiji Sachiko, Ogushi Kaori, Isoyama Eri, Kazeto Chihiro [construction] Mizuno Tadayasu, Yamada Yusuke, Kuwamata Naoya, Tanaka Yui

Tobu Railway SL Revival Operation Project

Tobu Railway SL Revival Operation Project

[Project Summary] The grand project of "SL Revival Operation" has begun, and for the first time in about half a century, Tobu Railway will run a steam locomotive on the Kinugawa Line. As part of the project, we were involved in concept design and supervision of the station building, platform, and head mark from the basic plan, the lively production of Kinugawa Onsen Station, and the planning, design, and construction of the steam locomotive displays hall at Shimoimaichi Station. [Client's Challenge] In order to achieve the three main themes of the project, "preservation and utilization of railway industry cultural heritage," "vitalization of the Nikko and Kinugawa area," and ultimately "helping to support the Tohoku reconstruction effort," we aimed to create a lively atmosphere to increase the branding of the area and to create displays that conveys the charm of the railway industry cultural heritage and expands the number of railway fans. [Solution] Based on a Showa retro concept design reminiscent of the time when steam locomotives ran, we created a lively atmosphere in the station building and an displays that allows people of all ages to experience the charm of steam locomotives, so that not only core railway fans but also a wide range of generations can enjoy it. At both stations where the steam locomotive stops, we created an environment with concept design based on the station buildings of the time and large eye-catching lanterns. The steam locomotive displays hall also features impressive life-size photos of steam locomotives, flip-through displays that children can enjoy, and information on the history of steam locomotives at Tobu Railways that appeals to local residents and steam locomotive fans. <Our project members> [Development] Kawata Motoo [Sales/Project Management] Kawata Motoo, Takamori Masahiro [Research/Planning/Consulting] Furuta Yoko, Yasuda Tetsuro, Takeuchi Toko [design, layout] Ishii Naoko, Sato Takayuki [Production/ construction] Matsukawa Koichiro, Soeno Masato

slice of time

slice of time

[Project Summary] A spatial installation by the Italian luxury watch brand "PANERAI". First, a transparent "shell" watch was concept design that condenses Panerai's characteristics such as the index with a single stroke of the numerals and the square-shaped case, and then it was stretched to a length of 16 meters by extrusion molding. This long and thin "shell watch" is sliced little by little to make a watch by hand, and visitors can take the finished product home with them. The "age" of the visitor is converted into "mm" and cut out, so watches of various proportions are naturally produced. A circular atelier space is prepared for each work process such as polishing, sandblasting, and assembly, and the way the watch is gradually completed while interlocking and interlocking is performed like the gears of a clock. One watch is produced every five minutes, and the long and thin "shell watch" gets shorter little by little during displays period, and the installation ends the moment they all disappear. In other words, this "shell watch" is also a device that makes you perceive time like an hourglass. We thought that by converting "time" into "length" like "selling watches by weight," it would be possible to experience time and even to "take home a moment of your own." This property was designed by our company's concept design team "onndo(※)." *What is "onndo"? Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition

Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition

[Project Summary] The venue design for "HANA SO," a solo exhibition by Akane Teshigahara, the fourth-generation head of the Sogetsu Ikebana School, held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the school. Usually, displays are decided in advance, and the space is designed to make the most of them. However, for this displays, the head of the school proposed the reverse process, in which the flowers were arranged based on inspiration from the space. In addition, the displays venue was the terraced rock garden "Heaven" created by sculptor Isamu Noguchi, so it was essential to make use of the spatial characteristics of the space. Therefore, we decided to create an expression like "mirror ivy" by cutting a 0.5mm-thick mirror-finished stainless steel plate into a series of diamonds, and covering the rock garden while folding each one. The ivy reflects the surrounding scenery while revealing the texture and expression of the rock garden below. The colors and outlines of the flowers arranged in the gaps are diffusely reflected, creating a visual effect like a kaleidoscope. In this way, by inserting a new layer between the two "works" of flowers and rock garden, we hoped to bring about a new kind of fusion and harmony, as if the flowers were gently embracing the rock garden. This property was designed by our company's concept design team "onndo(*)". *What is "onndo"? Renewal of Seibu Chichibu Station

Renewal of Seibu Chichibu Station

[Project Summary] This project involved a complete beautification and renewal of the existing Seibu Chichibu Station building, with the aim of creating a new, lively base for regional tourism that would bring together the diverse charms of the Chichibu area and promote them to the world. The diverse charms of the Chichibu area are promoted through the selection of materials unique to Chichibu, such as locally produced cedar wood and paper lanterns, and the creation of an original logo. We assisted with the concept, basic architectural and interiors concept design, and design supervision. [Client's Challenge] The station building was required to increase the expectations of customers about to visit tourist spots, and to leave a lingering impression on customers returning from tourist spots, making Chichibu tourism more memorable and contributing to the sustainable development of the region. [Solution] We aimed to create a station building that would bring together the diverse charms of Chichibu, such as its rich nature, inherited culture, and vibrant festivals, and be loved by the local community, and to be a "place" that communicates and connects with visitors. Against a background of "ink color" that exudes dignity, the local culture is expressed through the use of locally produced "Chichibu cedar" wood and the local industry of "paper lanterns." The delicate latticework of the "woven pattern" that weaves together the scenery and culture, and the "Chichibu crest" that changes with the seasons add color to the space, making it a place where you can feel Chichibu everywhere. In a space that emphasizes the climate, history, and culture of Chichibu, we planned a "place" where the local area and tourism are connected and new experiences and communication are born. Ginza Yamau

Ginza Yamau

[Project Summary] A carefully selected pickle shop that spreads Japanese pickle culture from Ginza. It is a pickle select shop that sells not only its own products but also delicious pickles from all over Japan. Customers can sample and enjoy seasonal pickles based on fresh vegetables each season. We carefully selected ingredients and concept design the package from scratch so that it would be a popular Japanese souvenir and have the quality to be used as a gift. We provide a total service from branding, menu development, design administration, interiors concept design and construction, to operation and management. [Client's Challenge] When Yamau Co., Ltd., a long-established pickle shop that was in the business of manufacturing and wholesale, opened its first flagship store in Ginza, it was required to make pickles familiar to Japanese people into a product that could be used as a gift, and to create a base that would not only sell pickles but also spread the unique "pickle culture" of Japan. The challenges for the building were to meet various regulations due to the location in Ginza, and to create a building that was suitable for the town of Ginza, with a Japanese look despite the shape of a 5m-wide, 4-story pencil building. [Solution] In order to create an appearance befitting the Ginza area, the exterior façade was designed with an arrangement of the traditional Japanese kumiko design. It combines good old tradition with a modern feel that matches the times, and appeals to people with its appealing originality. Inside, traditional materials and finishes are combined to create a sense of nostalgia, comfort, and relief. A unique sweet shop with a pickled vegetable theme is also included. <Our project members> [Sales/Project Management] Yuasa Shigeo [Planning/Consulting] Hosaka Takashi, Isozaki Takashi [design, layout] Kirioka Sakae, Osano Nana [Sign/Graphic concept design] Soragumi Hirota Osamu [Production/ construction] Ebihara Shigeyuki [Operation Management] Awatani Takahiro, Hisakado Takanori

Nihonbashi Toyama Museum

Nihonbashi Toyama Museum

[Project summary] "Nihonbashi Toyamakan" is a comprehensive information receiving and transmitting center that can sell products, provide tourist information, and hold exchange events, with a restaurant where you can experience the taste of Toyama as its main focus. Materials and traditional crafts from Toyama Prefecture are used throughout the space, and it is a new base that conveys the beautiful nature, diverse culture, and food charm of Toyama that are the background, rather than simply selling products, and conveys "quality living in Toyama" that makes people think "I want to visit Toyama Prefecture". We assisted with consulting, design, layout, building execution, event management, and PR support. [Challenge/theme] "A place to convey quality living in Toyama" The theme was to not only get things, but also to convey experiences, leading to the revitalization of industry, tourism, etc. [Solution] We put into practice the proposal to "revitalize the facility by introducing a new purpose that will be a centripetal force." Utilizing our CSV solutions for creating public spaces, "Forester Project" (*1) and "Japan Value Project" (*2), we were able to realize a plan and design that would not just be a product center, but one that can be utilized for the various regional revitalization measures that Toyama Prefecture is aiming for, such as tourism, industry, and immigration. For the wood used for the tables and chairs that are actually used, our designers visited sawmills in Toyama Prefecture and selected local materials, including cedar and keyaki, for the building. "Forester Project" (*1) A project to create facility development that creates a strong impression of the regional brand while supporting forestry by producing facility interiors, furniture, and fixtures using domestic materials that are characteristic of the region.
