overview
[Outline of the project]
A spatial installation by the Italian luxury watch brand "PANERAI".
First, we concept design a transparent, shell-like watch that condensed Panerai's characteristic features, such as the index using numbers drawn in a single stroke and the square-shaped case, and then we stretched it to a length of 16 meters using extrusion molding.
The clocks are made by hand, gradually slicing off these long, slender "empty clock shells," and visitors can take home the finished product.
Because the visitor's "age" is converted to "mm" and then extracted, a variety of watches with different proportions are naturally created.
Each step of the process, from polishing and sandblasting to assembly, is handled in a separate circular atelier space. The way these spaces mesh together and work in conjunction to gradually complete the watch is reminiscent of the gears in a clock.
One clock is made every five minutes, and the long, slender "empty clock shells" gradually shorten over the duration of displays, ending the installation the moment they all disappear.
In other words, this "empty clock" is also a device that allows us to perceive time, much like an hourglass.
I thought that by converting "time" into "length," like the "selling clocks by weight," it would be possible to experience time, and even "take home your own personal time."
This property was designed by our company's concept design team, "onndo (*)".
