Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition
overview
[Outline of the project]
The venue layout for "HANA SO," a solo exhibition by Akane Teshigahara, the fourth headmistress of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, held to commemorate the school's 90th anniversary.
Usually, displays works are decided in advance, and the space is designed to best utilize them, but
For this displays, the head of the school proposed a reverse process: arranging flowers after being inspired by the space itself.
Furthermore, since displays venue was "Heaven," a terraced stone garden created by sculptor Isamu Noguchi, it was essential to make the most of its unique spatial characteristics.
Therefore, I came up with the idea of cutting out a 0.5mm thick, mirror-finished stainless steel sheet into a shape of interconnected diamonds, folding each one, and covering the rock garden with it to create an effect resembling "mirror vines."
The ivy reflects the surrounding landscape while subtly revealing glimpses of the texture and character of the rock garden below.
The colors and outlines of the flowers placed in the gaps were reflected in a dazzling way, creating a visual effect reminiscent of a kaleidoscope.
In this way, by inserting a new layer between the two "works" of art—flowers and a rock garden—we aimed to bring about a new fusion and harmony, as if the flowers were gently embracing the rock garden.
This property was designed by our company's concept design team, "onndo (*)".
