Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition

Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition

[Project Overview] This project involved the venue design for "HANA SO," a solo exhibition by Akane Teshigahara, the fourth headmaster of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, held to commemorate the school's 90th anniversary. While typically displays works are decided in advance, and the space is then designed to complement them, the headmaster proposed the reverse process for this displays: the flowers were arranged based on inspiration drawn from the space itself. Furthermore, since displays venue was "Tengoku," a terraced stone garden created by sculptor Isamu Noguchi, it was essential to utilize the unique spatial characteristics of the garden. Therefore, we considered cutting 0.5mm thick, mirror-finished stainless steel plates into a series of diamond shapes, folding each one to cover the stone garden, creating an expression resembling "mirror vines." The vines reflect the surrounding landscape while allowing glimpses of the texture and appearance of the stone garden below. The colors and outlines of the flowers arranged in the gaps are then scattered, creating a kaleidoscope-like visual effect. In this way, by inserting a new layer between the two "works" of art—flowers and a rock garden—we aimed to bring about a new fusion and harmony, as if the flowers were gently embracing the rock garden. This project was handled by our concept design team "onndo (*)." *What is "onndo"? Operated by nomura and nendo design office. It is our creative team that has a business partnership with "nendo," concept design office headed by the globally acclaimed designer Oki Sato. Photography: Takumi Ota

Renewal of Seibu Chichibu Station

Renewal of Seibu Chichibu Station

[Project Overview] This project involves the complete beautification and renovation of the existing Seibu Chichibu Station building, with the aim of creating a new vibrant hub for regional tourism that brings together the diverse attractions of the Chichibu area and disseminates them to the world. Through the selection of materials unique to Chichibu, such as locally produced cedar wood and lanterns, and the creation of an original logo, the project communicates the diverse charms of the Chichibu area. Our company assisted with everything from the concept to the basic concept design of the architecture and interiors, and design supervision. [Client's Challenge] The client wanted a station building that would heighten the expectations of customers heading to the tourist destination and leave a lasting impression on customers returning from the tourist destination, thereby making Chichibu tourism more memorable and contributing to the sustainable development of the region. [Solution] We aimed to create a station building that brings together the diverse attractions of Chichibu, such as its rich nature, inherited culture, and vibrant festivals, and is loved by the local people and serves as a "place" that conveys and connects with visitors. Against a backdrop of dignified "ink black," the use of locally produced "Chichibu cedar" and "lanterns," a local industry, expresses the regional culture. The delicate lattice patterns of "Woven Patterns," which weave together landscapes and culture, and the "Chichibu crests," which change with the seasons, add color to the space, creating an environment where you can feel Chichibu at every turn. We planned a "place" where the local area and tourism are connected, and new experiences and communication are born, in a space that emphasizes the climate, history, and culture of Chichibu. [Our project members] [Development] Toshiyuki Shirai [concept design] Toshihito Kato, Masataka Myonaka *The year of opening listed below is the year the renovation work was completed.

Ginza Yamau

Ginza Yamau

[Project Overview] A select pickle shop that showcases Japan's pickle culture from Ginza. It is a select shop for pickles that sells delicious pickles from all over Japan, as well as its own products. Customers can sample and enjoy seasonal pickles made with fresh vegetables. The ingredients were carefully selected and the packaging was concept design from scratch to ensure that the pickles are of a quality that can be enjoyed as Japanese souvenirs and gifts. Our company handles everything from branding and menu development to design administration, interiors concept design and construction, and operation, management. [Client's Challenges] Yamau Co., Ltd., a long-established pickle shop that has been engaged in manufacturing and wholesale, was opening its first flagship store in Ginza. The challenge was to create products that conveyed a sense of luxury that made pickles, which are familiar to Japanese people, suitable for gifts, and to serve as a base for disseminating Japan's unique "pickle culture" in addition to sales. The challenge in terms of architecture was to create a building that was appropriate for the Ginza area, despite various restrictions due to the Ginza location and the shape of a 5-meter wide, 4-story pencil building, while maintaining a Japanese appearance. [Solution] To create an appearance befitting the Ginza district, the exterior facade features an arrangement of kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique. It combines the good old "tradition" with the "contemporary" aspects that match the times, appealing to people with its "novelty." Inside, traditional materials and finishes are combined to express nostalgia, comfort, and a sense of coziness. A unique sweets shop themed around pickles is also attached. <Our Project Members> [Sales/Project Management] Shigeo Yuasa [Planning/Consulting] Takashi Hosaka, Takashi Isozaki [design, layout] Sakae Kirioka, Nana Kosano [Signage/Graphic concept design] Osamu Hirota, Sora-gumi [Production/ construction] Shigeyuki Ebihara [operation, management] Takahiro Awatani, Takanori Kumon

[Project Overview] Nihonbashi Toyama-kan is a comprehensive information hub centered around a restaurant where visitors can experience the flavors of Toyama, and also offers retail sales, tourist information, and exchange events. Throughout the space, Toyama-produced materials and traditional crafts are used, making it a new hub that conveys the "high-quality lifestyle of Toyama" and not just sells goods, but also conveys the beauty of Toyama's nature, diverse culture, and the allure of its food, making people want to visit Toyama Prefecture. Our company assisted with consulting, design, layout, building execution, event management, and public relations support. [Challenge/Theme] "A place to convey the high-quality lifestyle of Toyama" The theme was to revitalize industry, tourism, etc., by conveying experiences rather than just selling goods. [Solution] We implemented a proposal to "revitalize the facility by introducing a new purpose that will serve as a focal point." By utilizing our CSV solutions for creating public spaces, "Forester Project" (*1) and "Japan Value Project" (*2), we have created a project that is not just a local products store, but can be used for various regional revitalization measures that Toyama Prefecture aims to achieve, such as tourism, industry, and migration. Our designers visited sawmills in Toyama Prefecture to select locally sourced wood, including cedar and zelkova, for the tables and chairs that are actually used in the building. "Forester Project" (*1) A project to develop facilities that strongly imprint a regional brand while supporting the forestry industry by manufacturing interiors, furniture, and fixtures for facilities using domestically produced timber with regional characteristics. (NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Scope of work: planning, design, leasing, construction, logo creation) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Experience the view and height in various ways The new observatory "SKY CIRCUS Sunshine 60 Observation Deck" (SKY CIRCUS Sunshine 60 Observation Deck), where visitors can enjoy and experience views and heights in various ways, fully reopened on April 21, 2016 (Thursday). This facility has evolved from an observatory for "just looking" to an observatory for "experiencing," based on the concept of "SKY CIRCUS," and offers a variety of state-of-the-art technologies, including VR technology and 4D experiences, interactive animation, and CG animation. The new observatory is a one-of-a-kind observatory where visitors can enjoy the "view" and play with "technology" at the same time. We planned and produced this project in collaboration with Dentsu Inc. The "Infinite Scape" is a giant kaleidoscope-like tunnel of light and mirrors that projects images depicting the changing seasons in Japan, and the "SKY Trampoline" is a vertical leaping trampoline that allows visitors to enjoy the experience of flying through the sky to see the natural landmarks of the four seasons, filmed by drones, Visitors can also enjoy inbound content. Visitors can also enjoy "Kaleidoscope 60," which features 60 kaleidoscopes and a sparkling "CUMOS Cube Kaleidoscope," and "Asobrella NEXT," an entertainment experience that offers views, weather, and simulated experiences, among others. Through industry-academia collaboration with Joshibi University of Art and Design, Osaka University, and other educational institutions, the facility is creating new experiences by transforming technology into entertainment. In this facility NOMURA Co.,Ltd. group, Nomura Development Inc. is in charge of the store "SKY CIRCUS SHOP" and cafe "Cafe Quu Quu Quu" operation, management, Nomura Techno Inc. is in charge of the technical system for the production equipment interiors, and Nomura Products Inc. is in charge of the production, and by utilizing our collective strength, we have created an observation deck that is unlike any other in the world. Nomura Development Inc. was in charge of the technical system for the staging equipment, and Nomura Products Co. <Customer Comments> This project was not a typical observatory renewal project to clean up the environment interiors, but a project to create value for a new observatory, and it was a difficult project to create something from nothing. Therefore, as a client, we were looking for new ideas that would entertain, surprise, and delight the guests. We were able to meet these requirements not by simply making one-sided proposals, but by working together enthusiastically to create them through free and vigorous discussion within the project team and, at times, by presenting the client with bitter criticisms. It was a great benefit for us to experience a new renewal method that was different from the competition style renewals we had done in the past. <Our project members> [Sales and project management] Hiroyu Imaizumi, Seiji Yamaguchi, Kenji Higashi [Planning] Kenichi Sakazume, Tetsuro Yasuda, Ai Ichikawa [design, layout] Tamae Takahashi, Yoko Suzuki, Kyoku Okamoto, Masataka Myonaka [Contents planning and concept design] Ryuta Yamada [Signage and graphics concept design] Yasuyuki Chosa [Contents production and construction] Toshiaki Kawabata, Junpei Hino construction Kondo Kobayashi, Keiji Kobayashi, Yuki Kuga, Nomura Techno [interiors] Masao Tomita, Tetsu Hirayama, Yoji Inuma, Nomura Products [operation, management] Kazuhiko Someya, Hajime Mizuno, Harue Inagaki, Yuki Saito ([maintenance management] Yoshitaka Okubo, Kazumasa Takeuchi, Nomura Techno)

ANTEPRIMA Ginza, ANTEPRIMA Casa Cucina

ANTEPRIMA Ginza, ANTEPRIMA Casa Cucina

<Project Overview> This is the largest flagship store in Japan, which opened along Ginza Miyuki Street. This store, which spans three floors from the basement to the second floor above ground, also houses the brand's world-first restaurant business, "ANTEPRIMA CASA CUCINA". The first floor features Anteprima/Wirebag and Anteprima/Misto, the second floor features the Anteprima collection line, and the basement floor houses Anteprima Casa Cucina, creating a flagship store that proposes a wide range of worldviews from fashion to food and beverage. <Client's Challenges> The challenge for "ANTEPRIMA CASA CUCINA," the brand's world-first restaurant business, was to create a home-like space that embodies the identity of Creative Director Izumi Ogino, where customers can feel as if they are visiting a friend's house. Furthermore, the 1st and 2nd floors inherit elements of the new store concept design created together in Roppongi, and based on the concept of Simple, Sophisticated, yet Sexy, the goal was to create a space where customers could feel the brand image throughout the entire store, proposing a refined style backed by high-quality materials and reliable technical skills. <Solution> At "ANTEPRIMA CASA CUCINA," a chef's counter and a U-shaped large counter were placed at the center of the store to create a warm space where conversations between the chef and customers naturally arise, making it feel like visiting a friend's house. In addition, furniture and fixtures that were carefully selected on a trip to Italy with the customers were incorporated into the space to create a home-like atmosphere. On the 1st and 2nd floors, as in Roppongi, artistic fixtures and the curved beauty created by natural wood were used as accents to create a refined and high-quality space. <Our Project Members> [Direction] Ryu Kosaka [Sales & Project Management] Hisayasu Takenaka, Hiroyuki Iizumi, Hiroya Matsumaru, Taisuke Kawagishi [design, layout] Minehito Yoshimura [Production & construction] Masayuki Tabata, Akihiro Yoshida
