ISHIYA GINZA

ISHIYA GINZA

[Project Description] This is the first store outside of Hokkaido for Ishiya Confectionery Co., Ltd., a Hokkaido-based confectionery manufacturer famous for "Shiroi Koibito" (White Lover) cookies. Unlike the Shiroi Koibito brand, which can only be purchased in Hokkaido, this store is a new brand created for store expansion outside of Hokkaido that does not sell the flagship product, Shiroi Koibito, and this is its first store. Positioned as an antenna shop that takes advantage of its location in Ginza (GINZA SIX), this store will serve as a stepping stone for future store expansion. [Client's Challenges/Requests] The most important thing in terms of concept design expression is that it conveys that it is a Hokkaido-based confectionery manufacturer. The newly developed product line uses a wide variety of local ingredients to create unique products, and we felt that a message was needed that clearly expresses that the roots of its appeal lie in Hokkaido. Therefore, we proposed making an impression with a design that uses "snow" as a motif. [Solution] This white design covering the wall is a deformed and patterned snowflake that has been cut into panels. This design evokes the scenery of Hokkaido, has a pop feel that matches the atmosphere of the confectionery packaging, and also serves as a neutral background to complement the wide range of colors in this merchandising. Inside the showcase, which is the focal point, a small stage was installed to enhance the visibility of the products, and the same cutting pattern was applied to its rising surface. This expresses the scene of confectionery displayed on freshly fallen snow, increasing its appeal to customers browsing the floor and making the products, which represent Ishiya Confectionery Co., Ltd.'s new endeavor and are imbued with thought, even more attractive. <Our Project Members> [Sales] Hyo Inoha, Tadayuki Matsubara [Design] Yoshihiro Kitamura [Production] Shigehito Katsumata, Hajime Komura

Client Innovation Center

Client Innovation Center

[Project Description] This facility is an innovation facility created with the aim of co-creating new value by bringing together people, technology, and wisdom, in addition to being a space to introduce and experience the technologies that Ajinomoto has cultivated so far, with the goal of solving the challenges of business partners and social issues. [Client's Challenges/Requests] Until now, technology introductions to companies have been on a visit-based basis, which limits the number of technologies that can be explained at one time, and it is difficult to convey the actual product introductions and the value of the technology. Therefore, there was a need to create a place where the appeal could be made more efficiently and effectively. Furthermore, there was a need to create an environment in which the potential value of the technology could be effectively conveyed and customer needs could be efficiently understood by allowing customers to "see, touch, and feel" the technologies that are owned. [Solution] In composing the space, we built a variable system based on the following ideas: ① fixed form (not having a fixed shape in terms of time or space), ② bidirectional (dialogue is the main focus, not objects or technology), and ③ unfinished (changing along with the evolution and changes of the world), thereby realizing highly flexible planning. This allows us to appeal to customers efficiently according to their needs and also enables unexpected connections and discoveries. Furthermore, as a concept design concept, we aimed to create a space (innovation space) that encourages free and flexible thinking by combining circles and organic curves, based on the theme of "Ferment" (to ferment, to revive, to stimulate). <Our Project Members> [Planning] Yuichi Saito, Tomoko Yanagihara, Keita Kobayashi [design, layout] Keiyu Tamura, Kensaku Shiroto [Creative Engineers] Kenichi Kishikawa, Ken Yanagisawa, Katsuji Oguchi (Nomura Techno) [Production & Construction] Jun Endo [Sales & Project Management] Ayako Konda, Atsuko Matsubara, Yasushi Shimizu

Tokyo Midtown Hibiya

Tokyo Midtown Hibiya

[Project Overview] Since the Meiji era, Hibiya has evolved as a place that provides a space for adults to socialize and relax, with the Rokumeikan, a social gathering place, and the Imperial Hotel, which was born as Japan's state guesthouse, standing side by side. Mitsui Fudosan, the project owner, has positioned "In the Park," "Entertainment," and "Elegance" as the unique values that Hibiya offers, and is creating a city that encourages the gathering and exchange of various cultures, sensibilities, and talents from around the world, creating new, future-oriented experiences and values. Our company was in charge of the commercial environmental design, production, and construction of the commercial floors from the basement to the 3rd floor above ground, and based on the concept of "THE PREMIUM TIME HIBIYA," we aimed to create a bright and glamorous space full of adult charm, befitting Hibiya, a sacred place for arts, culture, and entertainment, with the project owner's desire to provide visitors with a special experience in a luxurious time and space, and the concept design concept of a "theatrical space city." The three-story atrium, which is inspired by traditional theater spaces, is an elegant space with soft curves. The underground arcade inherits the memory of the city by reconstructing the "Sanshin Building," which was once a symbol of Hibiya in this area, with a modern concept design. <Our Project Members> [Sales & Project Management] Yo Nishimoto, Kazuya Chida, Shinpei Watanabe [design, layout] Yukio Kazusaka, Yusuke Matsumoto, Chikako Hatanaka [Production & construction] Keisuke Toda, Shinjiro Iwata, Yoshitaka Odajima

hotel koe tokyo

hotel koe tokyo

[Project Overview] Hotel Koe Tokyo embodies the lifestyle brand "koe"'s brand concept of "new basic for new culture." concept design with a global perspective that looks at "the present" and "the future," as well as "Japan" and "the world," it is a hotel-integrated store that creates a fusion of the ordinary and the extraordinary, and a new culture, centered on stay, fashion, music & food. As a construction company, we assisted Stripe International and the design firm Suppose concept design Office in bringing their ideas and visions to life. [Client's Challenges] The challenge was to understand the worldview envisioned by Stripe International and the design firm Suppose concept design Office, and to materialize it, including how to create it. While being mindful of the project's investment, we made optimal proposals regarding the creation methods and construction methods from a construction perspective. [Solutions] To address the above challenges, we shared the image by proposing a wide variety of materials and creating samples, and held numerous meetings with Suppose concept design Office to discuss construction methods. Furthermore, we made proposals that were mindful of project investment, responded promptly and promptly to specification changes, and kept the schedule in mind, thus fulfilling our role as construction company until the opening. <Our Project Members> [Sales/Project Management] Hiroshi Tsubosaka, Kayu Tatsumi [Production/ construction] Hiroki Yoshitake, Yoshito Hamabe, Fumiya Sasaki, Yuya Tsuboi Photography: Kenta Hasegawa

The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko

The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko

[Project Overview] This project involves renovating the guest rooms in the annex and the banquet hall on the first floor of The Prince Hakone Ashinoko into a grill restaurant. The aim was to incorporate the atmosphere of the scenic location, with its lush green mountains, the clear blue waters of Lake Ashi, and the view of Mount Fuji on clear days, into the hotel. [Client's Challenges] The planning involved utilizing the existing layout of the banquet hall on the first floor while coordinating it with the newly constructed open kitchen. The challenge for the guest rooms was to create a sense of renewal while retaining existing elements such as the beds, desks, and wainscoting designs, and adjusting concept design. [Solution] The restaurant's design incorporates calming materials, reflecting its location as a grill restaurant on the shores of Lake Ashi. Furthermore, the use of colors enhances the appeal of grilled dishes, and the space is designed to enhance the lively atmosphere of the newly constructed open kitchen. The guest rooms are designed with the concept of "the nature of Hakone and Lake Ashi," incorporating elements inspired by the scenery of Lake Ashi in Hakone, such as the sparkling water, the lovely flowers blooming along the lakeshore, the beautiful cedar trees, and the fantastical morning mist, to create a relaxing space. <Our Project Members> [Project Management/Sales] Masanori Kogure, Kae Omomo [design, layout] Sachiko Taihiji, Kaori Ogushi, Manami Nagao, Eri Isoyama, Chihiro Kazeto [construction] Tadayuki Mizuno, Taishi Takami

Oiso Prince Hotel

Oiso Prince Hotel

[Project Overview] This project involves renovating the existing guest room building in anticipation of the opening of a new building in July 2017, which will include the "THERMAL SPA S.WAVE" hot spring and spa facility. The aim was to create a seaside resort facility that combines the familiarity unique to Oiso, a historic villa area, with the newness that connects to the new building. [Client's Challenges] The theme was to renovate the existing accommodation building in a way that would enhance the overall appeal of the facility while aligning it with the already ongoing hot spring and spa building project. Another challenge was to transform the facility, which had been focused on summer due to its proximity to Oiso Long Beach, into a year-round resort hotel. [Solution] In Oiso, the birthplace of Shonan, the renovation was based on the concept of "Shonan Luxury," where guests can spend a relaxing and luxurious day feeling the sea and breeze. The goal was to create "the resort hotel closest to the city" by adding not only a swimming pool, but also tennis courts, a golf course, and a bowling alley. By subtly partitioning the entrance hall, lobby, party room, and restaurant areas, and creating spaces that allow for airflow, we renovated the space into a resort where you can feel the ocean no matter where you are. <Our Project Members> [Project Management/Sales] Masanori Kogure, Kae Omomo [design, layout] Sachiko Taihiji, Kaori Ogushi, Eri Isoyama, Chihiro Kazeto [construction] Tadayuki Mizuno, Yusuke Yamada, Naoya Kuwamata, Yui Tanaka

Tobu Railway SL Revival Operation Project

Tobu Railway SL Revival Operation Project

[Project Overview] A grand project, "Reviving Steam Locomotive Operation," has been launched, and for the first time in approximately half a century, a steam locomotive will run on the Kinugawa Line for Tobu Railway. As part of the project, our company was involved in everything from the basic plan to concept design and supervision of the station buildings, platforms, and headmarks, as well as creating a lively atmosphere at Kinugawa Onsen Station and planning, designing, and construction the SL displays hall at Shimo-Imaichi Station. [Client's Challenges] In order to realize the project's three main themes—"preservation and utilization of railway industrial cultural heritage," "revitalization of the Nikko and Kinugawa area," and ultimately "contributing to Tohoku reconstruction support"—we aimed to create a lively atmosphere to enhance regional branding and recognition, and to create displays that convey the appeal of railway industrial cultural heritage and expand the number of railway fans. [Solution] Based on a Showa retro concept design reminiscent of the time when steam locomotives were running, we created a lively atmosphere at the station and displays that allow people of all ages, not just core railway fans, to enjoy the charm of steam locomotives. At both stations where the steam locomotive stops, we created an environment that evokes the station buildings of the time, including concept design and large, eye-catching lanterns. The steam locomotive displays hall features life-sized photographs of steam locomotives that are awe-inspiring in their size, flip-book displays that children can enjoy, and information about the history of steam locomotives at Tobu Railway that will appeal to local residents and steam locomotive fans. <Our Project Members> [Development] Motoo Kawada [Sales & Project Management] Motoo Kawada, Masahiro Takamori [Research, Planning & Consulting] Yoko Furuta, Tetsuro Yasuda, Toko Takeuchi [design, layout] Naoko Ishii, Takayuki Sato [Production & construction] Koichiro Matsukawa, Masato Soeno

slice of time

slice of time

[Project Overview] This is a spatial installation by the Italian luxury watch brand "PANERAI". First, a transparent, shell-like watch was concept design, condensing Panerai's characteristic features such as the indices made with single-stroke numbers and the square-shaped case. This shell was then stretched to a length of 16 meters using extrusion molding. Watches are then made by hand, gradually slicing this elongated "shell watch," and visitors can take home the finished product. As the visitor's "age" is converted to "mm" and cut out, watches with various proportions are naturally produced. A circular atelier space is prepared for each work process, such as polishing, sandblasting, and assembly, and the way these spaces mesh and work together to gradually complete the watch is like the gears of a clock. One watch is made every 5 minutes, and the elongated "shell watch" gradually shortens during displays period, ending the installation the moment it all disappears. In other words, this "shell watch" also serves as a device to make us perceive time, like an hourglass. We thought that by converting "time" into "length," like selling time by weight, it would be possible to experience time and even "take home your own time." Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition

Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition

[Project Overview] This project involved the venue design for "HANA SO," a solo exhibition by Akane Teshigahara, the fourth headmaster of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, held to commemorate the school's 90th anniversary. While typically displays works are decided in advance, and the space is then designed to complement them, the headmaster proposed the reverse process for this displays: the flowers were arranged based on inspiration drawn from the space itself. Furthermore, since displays venue was "Tengoku," a terraced stone garden created by sculptor Isamu Noguchi, it was essential to utilize the unique spatial characteristics of the garden. Therefore, we considered cutting 0.5mm thick, mirror-finished stainless steel plates into a series of diamond shapes, folding each one to cover the stone garden, creating an expression resembling "mirror vines." The vines reflect the surrounding landscape while allowing glimpses of the texture and appearance of the stone garden below. The colors and outlines of the flowers arranged in the gaps are then scattered, creating a kaleidoscope-like visual effect. In this way, by inserting a new layer between the two "works" of art—flowers and a rock garden—we aimed to bring about a new fusion and harmony, as if the flowers were gently embracing the rock garden. This project was handled by our concept design team "onndo (*)." *What is "onndo"? Operated by nomura and nendo design office.
