Nagasaki Kaido Kamome Market

Nagasaki Kaido Kamome Market

"Nagasaki Kaido Kamome Market" is a new bridge built by the West Kyushu Shinkansen Kamome, just as the Nagasaki Kaido once served as a bridge to transmit the culture and technology of Nagasaki to the rest of Japan. From "Nagasaki Kaido Kamome Market," the market transmits the charm of Nagasaki to the entire country. The facility development concept is "Nagasaki First." It aims to transmit "Nagasaki's unique character," "connect Nagasaki with other prefectures and the world," "create energy for Nagasaki," and "become a place you naturally want to visit every day." [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] As the newly reborn land gateway to Nagasaki, there was a request to create a space where new exchanges could be born and a lively atmosphere could flourish. [Solution] concept design concept is "Nagasaki, a city of rich waterside culture and history," aiming to express the port that connects to the world. In the facade concept design, blue and white wave-shaped tiles are used to represent the waterside of Nagasaki Port and the light sparkling on the waves. In the interior concept design, we aimed to embody the city of Nagasaki by creating a highly circulating space. The configuration of a large outer perimeter circulation route and smaller paths leading inward allows visitors to encounter numerous shops that condense the essence of Nagasaki, resulting in a space that is "somewhat nostalgic" yet "new," harmonizing the city and its people. [Customer Feedback] Due to budget constraints, there were some aspects of the proposed concept design that we were unable to adopt. However, thanks to the flexible proposals and adoption of alternatives, we feel that we were able to realize an attractive space within our budget. <Our Project Members> [Sales/Project Management] Tadahiko Koga [design, layout] Hiroaki Koshizen, Yoshitaka Hirayama, Hideaki Hata, Mizuki Yamana

Kumamoto Castle Tower

Kumamoto Castle Tower

The Kumamoto Earthquake in April 2016 caused damage to the castle tower. In response to people's longing for the castle tower to be restored to its original form, the city of Kumamoto made it a policy to restore the castle tower as soon as possible. The building was completed in March 2021 with the latest earthquake-resistant technology. In the 400 years since the castle was built, the wishes of the people who have repaired the castle each time there has been a repeated disaster have been carried over, and the message from the people of Kumamoto living in the present for the future of the next 100 to 400 years is contained. At displays, we organized themes in chronological order from the basement to the top floor, and created a space that is easy to understand and impressive through the use of models, videos, and wall concept design, as well as the spatial concept design corresponding to the themes. Focusing not on the castle as a whole but on the castle tower, it conveys the history of the castle at the time of its construction, its architectural design, its defensive functions, the development of the castle and the town, and the thoughts and history of the people who have repaired it every time they have suffered disasters. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] ・ To convey the historical, architectural and spiritual significance of the castle tower, which is a symbol of recovery from the Kumamoto Earthquake. It is also important to communicate that Kumamoto Castle, which has historically suffered from numerous natural disasters, has been revived again after the earthquake. ・ Focusing not on Kumamoto Castle as a whole, but on the castle tower of Kumamoto Castle, sharing roles with the contents of displays of the surrounding facilities, and working for cooperation and complementation. ・ Since there are many restrictions on the preservation environment in the castle tower, basically the actual materials should not be displays, but the historical displays of the castle tower of Kumamoto Castle after the Seinan War should be added. ・ From the perspective of Universal concept design, introduce interactive displays and multilingual audio guides so that a wide range of people can enjoy displays. We received the above request. Solution: With the main focus on the castle tower, we organized the story along a time axis, from the castle's construction to the present, and set themes for each era on each floor. On the first floor is the period of Kato Kiyomasa, who built the castle, and the Hosokawa period, who later became the lord of the domain, the modern period, which experienced a complete fire and reconstruction, and the present day, which is devoted to the Kumamoto earthquake and its restoration. The story is arranged so that you can follow the period from the lower floor to the upper floor. In order to convey the strong will of the people who have repaired the castle tower every time there has been a series of disasters since the Edo period, "I want to restore Kumamoto Castle and pass it on to future generations." the film focuses on the castle tower. In addition, to cater to a wide range of visitors, we planned and realized multilingual audio guides and tactile models of the castle tower. Customer Comments: displays is organized in a way that is easy for anyone to understand and attract interest, such as explanations using models and projection mapping, and multilingual audio guides using title signs and apps, and has been well received by visitors. < our company Project Members > [Development] Masanori Yokoyama [Sales and Project Management] Masanori Yokoyama, Haruka Amano, Anjin Sawada [design, layout] Mitsuyo Ashida, Yuichiro Tsutsumi, Rie Makigara, Nanako Wajun, Yoichi Honda, Naoya Fujiwara [Shaping] Nobuyuki Endo [Production and construction] Yu Ikeya, Yoshikazu Kimura

Kitakyushu General Tourist Information Center

Kitakyushu General Tourist Information Center

This is a newly established tourist information center located within the public passageway of JR Kokura Station, the gateway to Kitakyushu City. With the aim of improving the satisfaction of tourists, including the increasing number of foreign visitors, and promoting sightseeing around the city, the existing information center, which was approximately 15 years old, was closed and relocated within the same station premises, and an expanded and newly constructed center was built. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] The requests included creating a user-friendly and comfortable space for travelers, equipping the center with hardware and software for a digital signage system with updatable content so that travelers can search for tourist information themselves, setting up the center with consideration for foreign visitors, such as installing foreign currency exchange machines, and ensuring that the center meets the highest standard "Category 3" *2 certified by JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization) *1. [Solution] In addition to meeting the above requests, the plan and proposal aimed to create an information center that would be effective even in the post-COVID-19 era. Based on the concept of "the gateway to Kyushu where you can experience Japan," the design reflects the progressive nature of Kitakyushu City, a mecca for craftsmanship, while also incorporating traditional concept design of the castle town of Kokura. Carefully selected interiors materials ensure a safe and clean space. Functionally, concept design includes a contactless face-to-face system using monitors, a system that allows travelers to upload and share travel information via social media, and a setup where the entire exterior glass wall becomes a digital signage displaying the charms of Kitakyushu City at night. concept design is innovative and characteristic of Kitakyushu City, unified in clean white, and features a bright, open, and inviting atmosphere with its all-glass facade. While harmonizing with the modern station interior based on gray, concept design also asserts its role as an information center by incorporating concept design inspired by Kokura weaving and other lively elements. Located at JR Kokura Station, the gateway to Kitakyushu City, this symbolic concept design conveys the charms of Kitakyushu City to both domestic and international visitors, raising expectations for their journey. [Customer Feedback] concept design of the tourist information center reflected the space our city envisioned creating, including the services it would provide, resulting in a tourist information center befitting the "gateway to Kitakyushu City." Despite the many constraints of being located within a train station, their rich imagination and high technical skills allowed them to overcome numerous challenges. We expect this facility to be used even more by the many tourists visiting our city. *1. About the JNTO Certified Foreign Tourist Information Center Certification System: Based on the "Guidelines for the Establishment and Operation of Foreign Tourist Information Centers (established January 2012, revised April 2018)" set by the Japan Tourism Agency, JNTO has been operating a certification system for foreign tourist information centers since fiscal year 2012. This certification system divides information centers into three categories and partner facilities based on their location, function, etc., and certifies them accordingly. Certification is renewed every three years, and JNTO aims to improve the functionality and quality of JNTO-certified foreign tourist information centers nationwide by providing support services such as interpretation services and training sessions. *2. What is the highest standard "Category 3"? English support is available at all times. In addition, a system is in place to provide information in two or more languages other than English at all times. Nationwide level tourist information is provided. Generally open all year round. Wi-Fi is available. Located in a gateway or a location with many foreign visitors. <From the Japan National Tourism Organization website> <Our project members> [Development] Satoru Soeda [Sales and project management] Satoru Soeda [Planning, design, layout] Chieri Nishimura [Production and construction] Kazuya Hijikuro

Koikeya GOGO! Factory

Koikeya GOGO! Factory

At the Kyushu Aso Factory, Koikeya's first production base in Kyushu, they have established the "Koikeya GOGO! Factory" as part of their efforts to bring smiles to the people of Kyushu, including Kumamoto. This facility allows visitors to experience Koikeya's history and commitment since its founding, while taking a factory tour and making their own original potato chips. Through factory tours at the Kyushu Aso Factory, the facility is designed to appeal to the local community and showcase the charm of Koikeya. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] Mashiki Town, where the factory is located, was affected by the Kumamoto earthquake. Koikeya wanted to create jobs by operating the new factory and contribute to the recovery and revitalization of the region by producing not only high-value-added products but also their standard products. As part of their efforts to bring smiles to the people of Kyushu, including Kumamoto, they planned a facility where visitors can experience Koikeya's history and commitment since its founding, while taking a factory tour and making their own original potato chips. [Solution] To convey the image of the "new Koikeya," which was rebranded in 2016, as a "long-established potato chip company," we used a noren (traditional Japanese curtain) at the entrance and placed a large graphic called "Koikeya Cultural Philosophy Diagram" that allows visitors to learn about the company's history. Furthermore, when visitors enter the facility, they are greeted by a bright, white space, expressing Koikeya's spirit of "Go Go!" to create "even more delicious" products. In the original potato chip making experience, visitors can enjoy the experience in a "chef style" using a U-shaped counter, emphasizing communication with visitors. [Customer Feedback] Despite the extremely short deadline, you created a facility of high quality. You understood our commitment and the corporate image we aim for very well and expressed it in the finished product. We expect that it will be very effectively used as a place for communication with the local community in the future. <Our Project Members> [Sales & Project Management] Hitomi Ariga [Planning] Tomoko Yanagihara, Mina Mochizuki [concept design] Noriaki Tamura, Akika Yamada [Graphics] Taishin Terumine [Production] Tomoaki Morita

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

~More than just a place to wait for trains, a station as a community space where everyone can feel comfortable~ Based on the concept of creating a place that fosters community, workshops and surveys were conducted with local residents from the planning stage. User needs were made apparent and reflected in the design. To create opportunities to experience various cultures through books during the time spent in the station, a corner where books and picture books can be read has also been installed. In order to convey the charm of local resources through the use of the station, the locally produced "Obi cedar" was actively used in various parts of the space, and the design and production of a space in which users can experience the charm of Obi cedar through their own experience was planned and produced. [Client's challenges/requests] The Nichinan Station, which was a place only for getting on and off trains and lacked any sense of community before the renovation, was to be transformed into a place that fosters local community and allows people to feel the "charm of the region". [Solution] In order to convey the appeal of local resources through the use of the station building, we collaborated with a local design firm, Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., and actively incorporated locally produced "Obi cedar" into various parts of the space. To create opportunities for users to experience the charm of Obi cedar, we used wood for the station building's facade and window frames, while harmonizing it with the forest spreading behind the station building. In addition, we implemented a signage plan that makes the station's presence recognizable from a distance, and produced a space that harmonizes and integrates with the surrounding environment and the station building, with wood as the main material. [Customer's Voice] People other than JR users have started to visit the station building, and it has been renovated into an attractive space where local people can gather. We would like to continue to use it as a place for the local community, such as by holding events using the station building in the future. <Our Project Members> [Sales] Reiko Ibe [Planning, Production, Workshop concept design, design supervision] Mari Matsumoto ~Related Links~ [News Releases] ・ NOMURA Co.,Ltd., Ltd. opens a renovated old house facility as the first in a public-private partnership project to revitalize Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA Co.,Ltd. conclude a "Comprehensive Partnership Agreement on Regional Revitalization" ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA Co.,Ltd. sign the "Regional Revitalization Business Personnel Exchange Program" ・ NOMURA Co.,Ltd. takes on the role of a creative partner in community co-creation for urban development [Media Coverage Information] ・2019.07.05 "Construction Communications Newspaper" ・2020.04.01 "Nichinan TV" ・2020.04.07 "Miyazaki Nichinichi Shimbun" [Related Achievements] ・Plus D Nichinan Branch ・Kiraku Obi Goya Residence ・DENKEN PJM Photography: Park concept design Co., Ltd.

Kiraku Obi Aiyatei

Kiraku Obi Aiyatei

[Project Description] This project involves converting a traditional Japanese house located in Obi, Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture, into accommodation. Obi was designated in 1977 as the first Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in the Kyushu and Okinawa region, and is an area where buildings with a sense of unity line the streets. Therefore, the exterior design had to be renovated with the premise of harmonizing with the landscape from a preservation standpoint. So, the aim was to create a facility that would attract many visitors by giving the interior design a high degree of concept design freedom and using distinctive furniture and decorations. Furthermore, on January 28, 2017, Nichinan City and NOMURA Co.,Ltd. signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement to realize town development in line with Nichinan City's concept of "Creating Customers and Creating People." On October 10, 2018, as part of the cooperation agreement, they signed the "Regional Revitalization Business Personnel Exchange Program," and dispatched Kyohei Yamano, a creative talent who handles spatial production, to Nichinan City to work on regional revitalization. Together with Nichinan City, related companies, and various other players, we are working on regional revitalization, including the creation of the "Guidelines for Town Development for the Regeneration of the Obi District of Nichinan City," the "DENKEN WEEK (Traditional Building Week)" event aimed at the development of the historic townscape, and the production of spaces in old houses. [Client's Challenges/Requests] (1) We want to renovate an old house into accommodation mainly targeting foreign tourists. (2) We want to incorporate elements unique to the region as a strength of the accommodation business. (3) We want to create a space that makes people feel the essence of Japan. [Solution] Old houses are one of the spaces where Japanese lifestyle and culture, or "lifestyle," are most concentrated. In this renovation plan, we wanted to make the most of elements that convey the scenery of the past, such as pillars, beams, and ceilings, and make the other elements into a space that can be comfortably used by people of today. Therefore, the overall concept is "Post-Heritage: Transformation for Inheritance and Weaving into the Next Generation," and we are exploring a new way of inheriting culture. Regarding tools, we followed a consistent selection theme, and without being limited to traditional techniques, we composed of items that weave together Japan through various approaches. As a result, we believe that this accommodation provides an inspiring experience that sparks interest in Japan for foreign visitors and instills pride in Japan in domestic tourists. <Our Project Members> [Space Production] Yasutoshi Yamano [Furniture and Decoration Coordination] Yasutoshi Yamano [concept design (interiors)] Yukio Kazusaka [Development] Nobuyuki Yagi [Sales] Toshiyuki Shirai ・Release: Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA Co.,Ltd. conclude a "Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement on Regional Revitalization" https://www.nomurakougei.co.jp/uploads/news/attachments/1/bd685168ce469eb3f8f63ef2a5fe43c89bbc9af85df83d352763aa2eeb42e9cf.pdf ・Release: Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA Co.,Ltd. sign "Regional Revitalization Business Personnel Exchange Program" https://www.nomurakougei.co.jp/uploads/news/attachments/1/aa565bf338f37cd539f269b55ea67caf32e4e527800fa28c89557f39ddf51f19.pdf Other achievements: DENKEN PJM https://www.nomurakougei.co.jp/achievements/detail/409

Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk guest room and corridor renovation work

Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk guest room and corridor renovation work

[Project Description] This project involves the renovation of 148 guest rooms across 4 floors and 22 floors of corridors. Hilton Fukuoka Seahawk is an iconic symbol of the "Seaside Momochi district," which has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best urban landscapes, and its architectural shape is based on the concept of "a large ship setting sail on Hakata Bay." In this renovation, we aimed to create a Hilton Fukuoka that would be loved by people all over the world for a long time, using the comfort of being on a ship and the view of the sea from the deck as motifs, and imagining the way people interact, stemming from the connections between people in Hakata Bay, which has long been a link to exchanges with foreign countries. We aimed to concept design a Hilton Fukuoka that would be loved by people all over the world for a long time, using forms and compositions that arise from "interaction," materials that evoke the feeling of a "ship's cabin," and the colors of "white sand and green pines" unique to Hakata Bay. [Client's Challenges/Requests] The challenge was to make the guest rooms flexibly usable for various guests, including business travelers, leisure travelers, inbound tourists, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) guests. The long corridors needed to be concept design in a way that would not give guests a monotonous impression. [Solution] We incorporated a mechanism into the headboard of the bed in the guest rooms, allowing it to be moved towards the center, enabling the room to be arranged as either a twin or Hollywood twin room according to guest requests. In the corridor, the intersecting gradient lines of the carpet represent the trajectory of a ship, with the Hakata Bay side representing the sea, the center representing the sandy beach, and the city side representing the pine forest, creating an impressive concept design that incorporates the colors of the outside scenery into the interior. <Our Project Members> [Sales & Project Management] Masayuki Yoshimori, Nobuko Abe [design, layout] Keita Aono, Naoaki Yokoyama, Jun Watanabe [Production & construction] Takayuki Gara, Mitsuaki Kanayama

Plus D Nichinan Branch Office

Plus D Nichinan Branch Office

[Project Description] We converted a samurai residence over 140 years old, located within the Obi Important Traditional Buildings Preservation District, a castle town with a long history in Kyushu, into an office where you can experience the local culture. The overall concept is "Post-Heritage: Transformation for Inheritance and Passing on to the Next Generation," and by clarifying the points to be passed on and the points to be renewed, we are trying a new way of connecting culture. We aimed to create a space that connects with the community by reinterpreting the lifestyle of former private homes in a modern way. The concept design consists of two different spaces: a communication space with a large table made from the floorboards used in the original private home, and an open workspace with a counter facing the greenery through the opening. The gravel-covered earthen floor inserted between them serves as an intermediate area that connects the two spaces and the outside and inside. The newly constructed "tiered deck" in the garden gently connects the inside and outside, and is used as a space that connects people, things, and events, such as events where local people gather and promotional spaces for local products. [Customer Feedback] The unique and attractive office space, which allows us to experience the local culture, has been well-received not only by local residents but also by many municipalities and companies involved in vacant property management. These connections have enabled us to develop new businesses. <Our Project Members> [Development] Yasutoshi Yamano [Sales] Toru Moenuki [design, layout] Yoichi Kawakami, Shinpei Takeda, Ryosuke Shimizu
