Koikeya GOGO! Factory

Koikeya GOGO! Factory

At the Kyushu Aso Factory, which is Koikeya's first production base in Kyushu, as part of an effort to bring smiles to the people of Kumamoto and Kyushu, the company has established the "Koikeya GOGO! Factory," where customers can experience the company's history and commitment since its founding while touring the factory and making their own original potato chips. This facility is designed to promote the appeal of Koikeya to local residents through factory tours at the Kyushu Aso Factory. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] As the company is located in Mashiki Town, an area that was damaged by the Kumamoto earthquake, the company wanted to create jobs by operating the new factory and to produce high-value-added products as well as standard products, which would contribute to the recovery and revitalization of the region. As part of this effort to bring smiles to the people of Kyushu, including Kumamoto, the company planned to set up a facility where customers can experience the company's history and commitment since its founding while touring the factory and making their own original potato chips. [Solution] In order to convey the image of the "New Koikeya" as a "long-established potato chip store" that was rebranded in 2016, we used a noren curtain at the entrance and placed a huge graphic called "Koikeya Cultural Philosophy Map" that shows the history. In addition, when visitors enter the facility, they are greeted by a bright and white space, expressing the fact that Koikeya is creating "even more delicious" with the spirit of "Go! Go! Go!". The original potato chip making experience was also done in a "chef's style" using a square-shaped counter, and we placed emphasis on communication with visitors. [Customer feedback] They created a high-quality facility within a very short delivery period. They had a very good understanding of our commitment and the corporate image we were aiming for, and they were able to express it in the product. We hope that we can make great use of this as a place to communicate with the local community in the future. <Our project members> [Sales/Project Management] Hitomi Ariga [Planning] Tomoko Yanagihara, Mina Mochizuki [concept design] Noriaki Tamura, Akika Yamada [Graphics] Daishin Teruyoshi [Production] Tomoaki Morita

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

~A station building as a community space where everyone can feel comfortable, not just waiting for trains~ Based on the concept of creating a place that fosters community, we conducted workshops and questionnaire surveys with local residents from the concept stage. We identified user needs and reflected them in the design. In order to create an opportunity to experience various cultures through books while spending time in the station building, we also set up a corner where people can read books and picture books. In order to convey the charm of local resources through the use of the station building, we actively used the local specialty "Obi cedar" in various places in the space, and planned and produced the creation of a space where users can experience the charm of Obi cedar through their own experience. [Customer's Issues/Requests] We received a request to turn Nichinan Station, which was a place with no place to go before the renovation and was only a place to get on and off trains, into a place that fosters the local community and feels the "charm of the area." [Solution] In order to convey the appeal of local resources through the use of the station building, we worked with the local design firm, Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. to actively use the local specialty "Obi cedar" throughout the space, and to create an opportunity for users to experience the appeal of Obi cedar through physical experience, we used wood for the station building facade and window frames while harmonizing with the forest behind the station building. In addition, we implemented a sign plan that allows the station to be recognized from afar, and produced a space that harmonizes and blends with the surrounding environment with a wood theme. [Customer feedback] People other than JR users have started to visit the station building, and it has been renovated into an attractive space where local people can gather. We would like to continue using the station building as a place for the local community, such as holding events in the future. <Our project members> [Sales] Ibe Reiko [Planning and production, workshop concept design, and design supervision] Matsumoto Mari ~Related links~ [News releases] ・ NOMURA, Ltd. opens old house restoration facility as first project in public-private partnership to revitalize the local area in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Comprehensive Partnership Agreement on Regional Revitalization" ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Regional Revitalization Corporate Exchange Program" ・ NOMURA works as a creative partner in co-creating the local community [Media coverage] ・2019.07.05 "Kensetsu Tsuushin Shimbun" ・2020.04.01 "Nichinan Television" ・2020.04.07 "Miyazaki Nichinichi Shimbun" [Related achievements] ・Plus D Nichinan branch ・Kiraku Obi Aiya Residence ・DENKEN PJM Photo: Park concept design Co., Ltd.

Kiraku Obi Aiyatei

Kiraku Obi Aiyatei

[Project Description] This project involves converting an old house located in Obi, Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture, into a lodging facility. Obi was designated as the first Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in Kyushu and Okinawa in 1977, and is an area lined with buildings with a sense of unity. Therefore, the exterior design needed to be renovated with the premise of harmonizing with the scenery from the perspective of preservation. Therefore, we aimed to create a facility that attracts many visitors by creating distinctive interior designs and furniture and decorations with a high degree of concept design freedom. In addition, Nichinan City and NOMURA signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement on January 28, 2017 to realize urban development in line with Nichinan City's concept of "creators, creators." On October 10, 2018, as part of the cooperation agreement, they signed the "Regional Revitalization Corporate Exchange Program," and dispatched creative talent Yasutoshi Yamano, who works on space production, to Nichinan City to work on revitalizing the region. Together with Nichinan City, related companies, and various other players, we are working to revitalize the area, including creating the "Nichinan City Obi District Revitalization Guidelines," holding the "DENKEN WEEK" event aimed at developing the historic townscape, and producing spaces for old houses. [Customer's Issues/Requests] (1) We want to renovate old houses into accommodations mainly targeting foreign tourists. (2) We want to incorporate elements unique to the region as a strength of the accommodation business. (3) We want to create a space that feels Japanese. [Solution] Old houses are one of the spaces that most condense Japanese lifestyles and culture, or "lifestyles." In this renovation plan, we wanted to make the most of the pillars, beams, ceilings, and other elements that convey the past, and to make the other elements into a space that modern people can use comfortably. Therefore, we set the overall concept as "Post-Heritage: Inheritance and Transformation to Spin for the Next Generation" and explored new ways to inherit culture. The selection of tools was also consistent, and we did not stick to traditional techniques, but instead composed of items that weave Japan in various approaches. As a result, we believe that this accommodation facility provides an inspiring experience that will spark an interest in Japan for foreign visitors to Japan and make domestic tourists proud of Japan. <Our project members> [Space production] Yamano Yasutoshi [Furniture and decoration coordination] Yamano Yasutoshi [concept design (interiors)] Suzaka Yukio [Development] Yagi Nobuyuki [Sales] Shirai Toshiyuki ・Release: Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Comprehensive collaboration agreement on regional revitalization" https://www.nomurakougei.co.jp/uploads/news/attachments/1/bd685168ce469eb3f8f63ef2a5fe43c89bbc9af85df83d352763aa2eeb42e9cf.pdf ・Release: Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Regional Revitalization Corporate Exchange Program" https://www.nomurakougei.co.jp/uploads/news/attachments/1/aa565bf338f37cd539f269b55ea67caf32e4e527800fa28c89557f39ddf51f19.pdf ・Other achievements: DENKEN PJM https://www.nomurakougei.co.jp/achievements/detail/409

Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk guest room and corridor renovation work

Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk guest room and corridor renovation work

[Project Description] A renovation project for 148 rooms on 4 floors and 22 floors of corridors. Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk is a symbolic icon of the Seaside Momochi District, which was selected as one of the 100 best urban landscapes in Japan, and its architectural shape is based on the concept of a "big ship sailing out into Hakata Bay." In this renovation, we also took the comfort of being on a ship and the sea view from the ship as our motif, and imagined how people interact with each other through the connections between people in Hakata Bay, which has been a link between foreign countries since ancient times. We designed the Hilton Fukuoka with the aim of making it a hotel that will be loved by people around the world for a long time, with a shape and composition born from "interaction," a texture that gives the feeling of a "cabin," and the colors of "white sand and green pine" unique to Hakata Bay. [Customer's Issues/Requests] The issue was to concept design the guest rooms flexible for various guests, including business, leisure, inbound, and MICE. The long corridors were required to be concept design in a way that would not give guests a monotonous impression. [Solution] We added a mechanism to the headboards of the guest rooms' beds, moving them to the center so that a single room can be arranged as a twin type or Hollywood twin type in accordance with guest requests. In the corridor, the intersection of gradation lines in the carpet represents the trajectory of a ship, and we have created an impressive concept design that incorporates the colors of the outside scenery into the interior, treating the Hakata Bay side as the sea, the center as the sandy beach, and the city side as the pine forest. <Our project members> [Sales and project management] Yoshimori Masayuki, Abe Noriko [design, layout] Aono Keita, Yokoyama Naoaki, Watanabe Jun [Production and construction] Eda Takayuki, Kanayama Mitsuaki

Plus D Nichinan Branch Office

Plus D Nichinan Branch Office

[Project Description] A samurai residence built over 140 years ago in Obi, a castle town with a long history in Kyushu and an important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings, has been converted into an office where visitors can experience the local culture. The overall concept is "Post-Heritage: Inheritance and Transformation for the Next Generation," and by clarifying the points that should be woven and the points that should be renewed, we are attempting a new way of connecting culture. We aimed to create a space that connects with the local community by interpreting the life of a former private home in a modern way. The concept design consists of two different spaces: a communication space with a large table made from the floorboards used in the former private home, and an open workspace with a counter facing the greenery through the opening. The gravel-covered earthen floor inserted between them is an intermediate area that connects both spaces and the outside and inside. The newly built "stepped deck" in the garden gently connects the inside and outside, and is used as a space for events where local people gather and to promote local products, making it a space that connects people, things, and events. [Customer feedback] By creating an attractive office space that allows you to experience the local culture, which is unique to this place, we have received positive feedback not only from local residents but also from many local governments and companies that are working on vacant houses, and this connection has led to new business development. <Our project members> [Development] Yamano Yasutoshi [Sales] Moenuki Toru [design, layout] Kawakami Yoichi, Takeda Shinpei, Shimizu Ryosuke

Kagoshima City Furusato Archaeological Museum

Kagoshima City Furusato Archaeological Museum

[Project Summary] The Kagoshima City Archaeological Museum was established with the aim of deepening the citizens' understanding of the history of Kagoshima City through the cultural heritage left by our ancestors, and contributing to the creation of a unique civic culture. In particular, the experiential displays, such as the "Excavation Experience" where you can experience what it's like to be an archaeologist, and the "Let's take a shape with a giant arc" where a tool for examining the shape of pottery is enlarged, are very popular, and foster an interest in archaeology and the history that it reveals in children. We have consistently assisted with the basic plan, design, and construction. [Client's Issues] After 20 years since its opening, the museum has become noticeably old, and the content and facilities needed to be renewed. displays renewal was carried out to present the latest research results, introduce experiential displays, and develop bright and easy-to-update displays facilities. The plan has three directions: the first is to create a region-specific displays that pursues "Kagoshima-ness," the second is to create a fun and educational museum that aims to "create a place for participatory experiences," and the third is to develop displays environment as "creating an environment to realize a facility that is more user-friendly." This was aimed at creating a facility where everyone, from children to adults, could enjoy learning about the archaeology of their hometown. [Solution] The first thing that gives the impression of "Kagoshima-ness" is the huge topographical table of the entire city of Kagoshima, including Sakurajima, which is located in the center overlooking the atrium space. It is accompanied by easy-to-understand explanations of the ruins in each area. Next, a representative example of "creating a place for participatory experiences" is the experience corner, which is made up of numerous hands-on items, for learning about archaeology in a fun way. And as for "creating an environment to realize a facility that is easier to use," we made detailed proposals such as an airtight case that allows humidity control, the introduction of people-friendly universal concept design, and the installation of environmentally friendly LED lighting. <Our project members> [Development] Tatsuya Fujii [Sales and project management] Tatsuya Fujii, Yumeki Kusumoto [Planning] Takeshi Shin, Kyohei Kishida, Setsuko Nishimura [design, layout] Sho Inanobe [Production and construction] Yoshito Inoue, Hayato Ichimata, Takeshi Suekawa, Shin Kameoka, Nanae Hori [maintenance management] Katsumi Yamada, Takatoshi Nakamura

Karatsu Castle

Karatsu Castle

[Project Summary] Karatsu has been a gateway to the continent since ancient times. During the Edo period, the Karatsu Domain was an important base for the Shogunate's governance of Kyushu, and was also a historical and cultural city where unique cultures such as Karatsu Kunchi and Karatsu ware flourished. What is expected of Karatsu Castle, the starting point of Karatsu tourism, is to utilize the charm of Karatsu's shining history and culture and play the role of a circulation device for walking around the city. We comprehensively reviewed displays, facilities, and operations, and aimed to redevelop it as a comprehensive facility and guidance facility for Karatsu City's "walking around the city" as a base to revitalize the region by maximizing the appeal of Karatsu Castle. We have consistently assisted with the basic plan, design, and construction. [Client's Issues] There were three issues with Karatsu Castle before the renovation. The first was that the client was eager to update the aging facilities, outdated displays, and outdated displays themes. The second was that Karatsu City's attractive resources were not being fully utilized, and collaboration with collections and other tourist spots was necessary. The third issue was safety and cultural property protection, and we needed to address issues such as natural lighting, universal concept design, earthquakes, and theft. By solving these three issues, we aimed to create a tourist base worthy of being a "tourism and cultural exchange city where authenticity shines, surrounded by nature, history, and culture." [Solution] In order to solve these issues, we aimed to realize an "displays that allows visitors to enjoy Karatsu," and actively utilized IT, such as developing displays story centered on the history of the castle town and the successive castle lords, creating an attractive displays space that makes use of Hizen domestic products illustrations and Karatsu ware, and introducing AR to explain displays. Next, we aimed to realize a "comfortable displays," creating a space with a sense of hospitality, such as a museum shop, reviewing the flow of people inside the building and taking into consideration those with weaker views, such as foreign tourists, installing toilets, stair lifts, and a multipurpose room. Furthermore, in order to realize a "safe displays," we enhanced the functions of the facility as an introduction to tourism in Karatsu, such as a tourist information corner, promoted mobility by disseminating information about tourist facilities, and thoroughly implemented risk management for accidents and losses. These are the three solutions we came up with. <Our project members> [Development] Yumeki Kusumoto [Sales and project management] Tatsuya Fujii and Yumeki Kusumoto [Planning] Takeshi Shin and Kyohei Kishida [design, layout] Masaaki Mitsunaga and Rie Morita [Production and construction] Takeshi Suezaki, Goro Yamano and Nanae Hori [maintenance management] Katsumi Yamada and Takatoshi Nakamura

The Food Times

The Food Times

[Project Summary] The Fukuoka Airport Domestic Passenger Terminal Commercial Facility "Green Blue" project is currently underway, aiming for completion in the spring of 2019. As the entire airport is redeveloped under the park concept, we are in charge of the environmental planning for the commercial zone. We aim to create a place where not only tourists but also the people of the city can gather, like a park with an integrated whole. This time, we were in charge of the design and construction of the food hall "The Food Times", which will be the highlight of the initial opening. [Challenge/Theme] ■ concept design concept "Captain's Base" "A private base for captains who fly around the world" With this concept, we took inspiration from maintenance yards and airplanes and developed it into concept design of each zone and detail. By giving it a story-like quality, we deepened the appeal of the space. ■The best trip starts from the best "If the waiting time is fun, the trip will be even more wonderful". Based on this idea, we created seating spaces with different personalities for each zone, and sprinkled in concept design that add a sense of playfulness, so that guests can spend their waiting time according to their own purposes. [Solution] In the north zone near the boarding gate, we placed a high counter zone where you can casually have a drink and board the board immediately. In the southern zone, airplane parts are displays, creating a museum-like space. It is planned so that visitors can spend time touching airplane equipment that they normally do not get to see. In addition, the central hall seats are equipped with original lighting inspired by the truss structure of a maintenance yard. The random movement creates a fun and lively atmosphere. The space at the back is modeled after a captain's study. Notes detailing the desire to become a pilot are written on a blackboard on the ceiling.
