Kikuchi Environmental Plant Clean Forest Koshi "Waste disposal tour route" "Environmental learning corner"

This project involved the planning, design, layout, and construction of the tour route and environmental learning corner at the Kikuchi Environmental Factory Clean no Mori Goshi.

"A journey through a story guided by a single line: A tour of the waste disposal process."
Guided along a single line, visitors can learn about the waste processing process by reading explanations of the facilities visible through viewing windows and watching videos of the equipment operating 24 hours a day, all while taking on quizzes. By eliminating the boundaries between walls and floors, we concept design a board game-like information space where explanatory graphics, displays content, and signage graphics are integrated into a single line.

We created a space that divides the world into two dichotomies at eye level: a world with reduced waste (light blue) and a world without reduced waste (achromatic). By comparing these two worlds at various scales—from the Earth to local communities to daily life—we concept design displays that encourages visitors to think for themselves about how they, as individuals, should confront and live with waste, and to provide them with insights.
