[Project Overview]
The Kagoshima City Archaeological Museum was established with the aim of deepening citizens' understanding of Kagoshima City's history through the cultural heritage left behind by their predecessors, and contributing to the creation of a unique and vibrant civic culture.
In particular, the interactive displays, such as the "Excavation Experience" where visitors can feel like archaeologists, and "Let's Shape with a Giant Arc," which uses oversized tools for examining the shape of pottery, are extremely popular, fostering children's interest in archaeology and the history it reveals.
Our company provided comprehensive support, from basic planning and design to construction.
[Customer's Challenges]
After 20 years since its opening, the museum's facilities and exhibits had become noticeably dilapidated, necessitating a refresh of its content and equipment. displays renovation aimed to enable the presentation of the latest research findings, the introduction of interactive displays, and the development of brighter, more easily maintainable displays facilities.
The plan has three main directions: firstly, a regionally focused displays that pursues the unique characteristics of Kagoshima; secondly, a fun and educational museum that aims to create a space for participatory experiences; and thirdly, the development of displays environment to create a more user-friendly facility. Through these efforts, we aim to create a facility where people of all ages, from children to adults, can learn about the archaeology of their hometown in an enjoyable way.
[Solution]
The first thing that makes you feel the essence of Kagoshima is the massive topographical table in the center, overlooking the open atrium and depicting the entire city of Kagoshima, including Sakurajima. It is accompanied by easy-to-understand explanations of the various archaeological sites.
Next, a prime example of "creating a space for participatory experiences" is an interactive corner consisting of numerous hands-on items designed to make learning archaeology fun.
Furthermore, as part of "creating an environment that makes the facilities more user-friendly," we made detailed proposals such as introducing airtight cases with humidity control, user-friendly universal concept design, and the installation of environmentally friendly LED lighting.
