PARA HEROes Exhibition

PARA HEROes Exhibition

The "PARA HEROes" exhibition was planned to convey the spread of diversity and inclusion to Japan and the world by four young artists and creators expressing the appeal of the sport and the athletes through the theme of "Para Table Tennis". As part of NOMURA Ltd.'s support activities leading to the promotion of sports, and also due to the connection with the "Tokyo 2020 Paralympics One Year to Go Commemorative Event COLORS" held in October 2019, we were able to sponsor the project by providing planning and concept design. What did the artists feel when they encountered "Para Table Tennis", what did they think when they tried to incorporate it into their work, and what did they want to convey through the work they created? What emerged from this was the way they expressed what they saw through their own sensibilities, without any fixed ideas or preconceptions. We hoped that visitors would also be able to break away from preconceptions through the artists' expressions, increase their empathy for parasports, and face the works with a natural state of mind, so we concept design the space concept to be "Uncoated". The elements that make up the space also make use of the base materials, and incorporate base materials related to each piece of art. Particular attention was paid to how the art is displayed, so as to bring out the best in each piece. In line with NOMURA Group's goal of "providing added value from an environmental perspective," this displays was concept design so that around 90% of the work can be reused as is. The wood used was selected in accordance with the Fair Wood Support Declaration. <Our project members> [Planning support and concept design] Yamaguchi Akane, Onishi Ryo ~Related links~ [Release] -NOMURA, Ltd. sponsors concept design work for "PARA HEROes Exhibition 2," currently being held to great acclaim -NOMURA, Ltd. launches company-wide "social good" activities to create a happy impact on society and contribute to solving social issues [Announcement] - "PARA HEROes Exhibition," with concept design work sponsorship, currently being held

KADODE OOIGAWA

KADODE OOIGAWA

An experience-based food park for green tea, agriculture, and tourism. It is one of the largest markets in the prefecture, consisting of a market, restaurant, cafe, kids park, and tenant stores. The aim was to increase the income of local farmers and create a place that would become a hub for local tourism, and it was carried out as a four-party collaboration project involving the Oigawa Agricultural Cooperative, Shimada City, Oigawa Railway, and Central Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. Our company was involved in everything from the basic and implementation plans to design, layout, construction, and tenant leasing. This project was produced by the Tokonatsu Infantry Corps, and we established a design JV with our company as the lead company, and played a central role in promoting the project up to its opening. [Social issues/customer issues/requests] The keywords are [agricultural promotion] and [regional promotion]. This region is one of the leading green tea producing areas in Japan, and tea farmers are absolutely confident in the quality of their tea, but as people are increasingly turning away from green tea, they had the challenge of not knowing how to promote its value or sell it. In addition, despite the Oigawa Railway's steam locomotives and the abundant tourist resources of the Oigawa River Basin, there was an issue of not being able to attract as many tourists as desired, so the goal was to create a base that would become a tourism hub for the region. We tackled the issues of creating a place where local farmers could sell their specialty products with confidence by promoting them in an attractive way, and creating a place where local people could recognize the charm of their local area and be proud of it. [Solution] 1. To be loved by the locals. 2. To make use of local resources. 3. To communicate in an easy-to-understand way We communicated the idea that what is "natural" to the region and farmers is valuable and attractive to people in other regions. By adding entertainment and concept design to it and creating a unique experience, we added value and made it into an attractive product and service. A new Oigawa Railway station was also opened, and it became a hot topic as a complex commercial facility that had never been seen in the region before, and it is bustling with many customers every day. <Our project members> [Sales] Aya Nishimoto, Keisuke Iwasa [Planning] Ryusuke Nomura [design, layout] Noriaki Tamura, Kan Fujimura, Midori Arai [Production and construction] Yoshiyuki Nakamura, Yuuki Saiki, Akihiro Yoshida, Sora Udagawa, Junhiro Kawatani [Leasing] Aya Nishimoto

Koikeya GOGO! Factory

Koikeya GOGO! Factory

At the Kyushu Aso Factory, which is Koikeya's first production base in Kyushu, as part of an effort to bring smiles to the people of Kumamoto and Kyushu, the company has established the "Koikeya GOGO! Factory," where customers can experience the company's history and commitment since its founding while touring the factory and making their own original potato chips. This facility is designed to promote the appeal of Koikeya to local residents through factory tours at the Kyushu Aso Factory. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] As the company is located in Mashiki Town, an area that was damaged by the Kumamoto earthquake, the company wanted to create jobs by operating the new factory and to produce high-value-added products as well as standard products, which would contribute to the recovery and revitalization of the region. As part of this effort to bring smiles to the people of Kyushu, including Kumamoto, the company planned to set up a facility where customers can experience the company's history and commitment since its founding while touring the factory and making their own original potato chips. [Solution] In order to convey the image of the "New Koikeya" as a "long-established potato chip store" that was rebranded in 2016, we used a noren curtain at the entrance and placed a huge graphic called "Koikeya Cultural Philosophy Map" that shows the history. In addition, when visitors enter the facility, they are greeted by a bright and white space, expressing the fact that Koikeya is creating "even more delicious" with the spirit of "Go! Go! Go!". The original potato chip making experience was also done in a "chef's style" using a square-shaped counter, and we placed emphasis on communication with visitors. [Customer feedback] They created a high-quality facility within a very short delivery period. They had a very good understanding of our commitment and the corporate image we were aiming for, and they were able to express it in the product. We hope that we can make great use of this as a place to communicate with the local community in the future. <Our project members> [Sales/Project Management] Hitomi Ariga [Planning] Tomoko Yanagihara, Mina Mochizuki [concept design] Noriaki Tamura, Akika Yamada [Graphics] Daishin Teruyoshi [Production] Tomoaki Morita

The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu

The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu

This project involved converting the old Kiyomizu Elementary School building, which has a history of about 90 years and remains in Kiyomizu, Kyoto, into a hotel. It has been reborn as a hotel that combines modern comfort while retaining its distinctive design. We were in charge of architectural design supervision, interiors design, layout, and FF&E concept design and construction. Kiyomizu Elementary School is one of the schools that has been evaluated as a unique building with unique features in its location, exterior decoration, and interiors concept design. Based on the hotel's concept of "engraving memories and connecting them to the future," we paid the utmost respect to the historical Western architecture and its interior space, and concept design to revive memories while preserving and inheriting them. In addition, we fused the architecture and interior space as new functions to express nostalgia and newness. [Client's Issues/Requests] It was necessary to design it so that it would function as a hotel while making use of the architecture of the existing historic elementary school. We also had to have repeated discussions about what kind of hotel would be acceptable to the Kyoto area. [Solution] We worked with creators on every detail, including architecture, landscape, interior, FF&E, artwork, graphics, and uniforms, to create a completely new and unique space. While the corridors and staircases where elementary school children once ran around have been preserved, when you open the doors to the classrooms where the children once studied, you will enter a completely different contemporary world. In order to maximize the value of the existing details that are valuable in the history of the architecture and interior space, we stuck to materials that do not overshadow but highlight them. The reflection of the materials reflected in the semi-gloss finish enhances the existing architectural design. We aimed to create a spatial composition with a "seeming" that can only be experienced here, by coordinating the total design of concept design, graphics, uniforms, etc., and harmonizing the interiors and FF&E concept design in a well-balanced way. <Our project members> [Sales/Project management] Toru Moenuki [design, layout / design supervision] A.N.D.: Ryu Kosaka, Shohei Urata, Hiroki Yasuda / Hiroyuki Nishikawa [FF&E concept design] A.N.D.: Kaori Sano

ARTBAY TOKYO

ARTBAY TOKYO

This is an art-based urban development project based in the waterfront subcenter area. The aim is to connect the five areas and the vast city of over 440 hectares through art and increase its appeal. For the first project, architect Motosuke Bandai was invited to design a pavilion called ARTBAYHOUSE. The pavilion was created with the concept of "architecture that embraces the 'nature' that is unique to this place." The architecture itself is an experiential work of art, and at the same time, it is a space that serves as a base for various art and urban development projects, as it changes while being enveloped in the ever-changing nature of light, wind, rain, and plants. There is also a cafe inside, and pets are allowed inside. The space where people, plants, animals, insects, and other various "nature" can each spend their time comfortably is a place where you can experience unprecedented newness that questions the future of cities and spaces. [Social issues / Customer issues / Requests] The waterfront subcenter area has all the basic urban functions, but the scale of each building and road is large, and there was a lack of places where people could spend their time comfortably, especially outdoors. Furthermore, although there are many natural attractions not found in urban areas, such as ocean views and wide skies, these were not being fully utilized. [Solution] 1. Create a human-scale space that serves as a starting point for urban development, where people can gather and feel comfortable. 2. Create content that has the power to attract and spread information, making people want to visit. 3. Implement experimental programs that are unique to the waterfront new city center area. With these three pillars as the planning axis, we aimed to realize an art project unique to this area that would present new value while responding to the issues facing the town. <Our project members> [Sales/Project Management] Ito Etsuro, Ibe Reiko [Research/Planning] Sugimoto Taku, Yokota Tomoko, Mochizuki Mina

Yamba Lake Station Maruiwa

Yamba Lake Station Maruiwa

This project is one of the projects to help the residents of the areas that will be submerged due to the construction of the Yamba Dam to rebuild their lives and find meaning in life. For about six years, we were in charge of the basic plan, schematic design, working drawings, interior administration, and consulting work to support local management companies for the "regional development facilities" in the "Kawarayu District" and "Yokobe District" of the relevant areas. For the Yokobe Regional Development Facility, we not only planned the construction, but also supported the launch of the management body established in the district, and planned and produced the facility, including the attraction of companies to enter the market, consulting on restaurants run by residents, menu development, and management supervision of opening equipment. The facility concept design was based on the concept of "inheriting and developing the town's memories," and reproduced the former Naganohara Town Hall*, which had fulfilled its role after about 90 years of construction and was scheduled for demolition, as a symbol of the district. We designed the facility to create an opportunity for the children who will be the future leaders of the district and the tourists who visit, to see the town's history, and to help the new businesses that will be run here lead to the regeneration, reconstruction, and development of the district. *The old government building, built in 1929 (Showa 4), was a two-story wooden building with a hipped roof and a Japanese-Western style exterior with a porch and a gabled roof on top. It was also said to be the only wooden government building in Gunma Prefecture. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] [Business] With the construction of the Yamba Dam, it was requested to establish a new business that had never been done before in this area, as a facility for the residents of the area to be submerged and rebuild their lives and find meaning in life. In addition, it was requested that the facility be differentiated from facilities planned in other areas and similar facilities, and that it have the ability to attract customers and be unique. [concept design] It was requested that the old government building, which is filled with people's memories, be utilized in some way, that it be visible from the busy national highway from the perspective of attracting customers, and that it be planned to attract passersby. It was also requested that the plan take advantage of the view that allows the Yamba Dam to be seen in the distance and the lake to be seen in the distance. [Solution] [Business] In order to realize the request, we focused on the following three points: first, to make suggestions to make the business ideas of the local residents possible; second, to differentiate the local regional development facilities between "Yokobe District" and "Kawarayu District"; and third, to strongly support the launch of a local parent company. In this project, we aimed to "open a restaurant," which none of the local people had experience in, and promoted it in a way that was close to the characteristics of the area and the characteristics of the business. In particular, we had many conversations about "looking for the Yokobe District's uniqueness" and "utilizing local recipes," and developed menus together, and promoted a plan that was closely tied to the area. For the prototype and tasting session, we invited professional chefs to support the local people in raising their awareness, revitalizing the area by improving their cooking skills, and strengthening their self-sufficiency. [concept design] When converting the function of the town hall to Lake Station, we surveyed the existing building and decided to recreate it in a modern update while taking into consideration the nostalgia of the former town hall building. The retro and distinctive design of the old government building has been reproduced to create a visual appeal. In addition, by creating an open opening facing Yamba Dam, the location has one of the best views of any facility around the dam lake. Furthermore, in order to maintain the style of the old government building while conforming to current regulations, careful consideration was given to the structural design. <Our project members> [Sales/Project Management] Arai Satoshi, Yamamoto Hitomi [Planning/Consulting] Sakazume Kenichi, Shimokuni Yuki [design, layout] NAU: Kirioka Sakae, Osano Nana

Hamamatsu Castle

Hamamatsu Castle

The keep of Hamamatsu Castle is a park facility built in 1958 with donations from citizens. 60 years had passed since its completion, and displays and decorations in the facility were deteriorating. This project is a renewal project in displays area to enhance the attractiveness of Hamamatsu Castle Park as a central park and to improve the satisfaction of citizens and visitors in the 450 year anniversary of the construction of Hamamatsu Castle by Tokugawa Ieyasu. At our company, I was in charge of construction including interiors, sign graphics, video software hardware, lighting and electrical work, and design construction of furniture and fixtures. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] ・ Introduces the history of the castle from Hikima Castle, the predecessor of Hamamatsu Castle, to the construction, reconstruction, and dismantlement of Hamamatsu Castle, to Hamamatsu Castle Park. ・ The ruins of castles in the city which can be visited are introduced, and the multi-layered history of Hamamatsu Castle and the appearance of castles in various parts of the city are conveyed. ・ Give a sense of unity to the current displays stories and the historical background. Production of multilingual panels and digital video content: displays. ・ Examination of traffic lines and concept design considering operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. ・ Acquired FSC® project certification using FSC® certified Tenryu wood (municipal wood). I received the above request. [Solution] ・ We designed the plan by zoning it into "passion," "state of affairs" and "scene" layers, focusing on the fact that "young Ieyasu" lived in Hamamatsu Castle and the historical background in which Ieyasu was placed at that time and the people who surrounded him, centering on those 17 years. ・ Produced a passion stage expressing the "passion" of young Ieyasu. The history of Hamamatsu Castle from Hikima Castle, the predecessor of Hamamatsu Castle, to its construction, reconstruction, and dismantlement to Hamamatsu Castle Park was introduced in a panoramic theater using existing models. ・ Utilizing Tenryu cedar, a material produced in Hamamatsu City, for the "scene" layer on the third floor. During the renovation, the castle became the first castle in Japan to receive FSC® project certification. [Customer Comments] In this renewal, the current status and issues of the castle tower have been accurately summarized, and images using the latest technology and recent discoveries and research have been incorporated into the overall renewal. In addition, there was an introduction of castle ruins that can be visited in the city, and explanations of places related to Ieyasu, legends, and food culture, etc. The newly redesigned Hamamatsu Castle was not only a place for learning, but also a facility to look back on the history of Hamamatsu, including the reconstructed castle tower. Visitors commented, "I can clearly understand the origin of Hamamatsu Castle," and "It has become fashionable." The City of Hamamatsu recognizes that the park has enhanced its appeal as a central park, improved the satisfaction of citizens and visitors, and improved its function as a hub for regional revitalization and tourism exchange. < our company Project Members > [Direction] Suzuki Atsushi [concept design] Horikoshi Sayaka [Planning] Inagaki Mima [Production/construction] Takahashi Akinobu [Sales/Project Management] Ogasawara Akinori, Tashiro Haruka [Related Links] [Release] NOMURA opens the first FSC® project certified facilities using domestic materials, Hamamatsu Castle and Hamamatsu Children's Museum

Hamamatsu Children's Museum

Hamamatsu Children's Museum

Hamamatsu Children's Museum opened in November 2001 with the aim of providing healthy play, creative experiences, and a place for interaction for children, and supporting the healthy development and child-rearing of children who will lead the next generation. The purpose of this project was to concept design the interiors environment, including the play equipment, which had become old and outdated after about 18 years since the museum opened, and to provide safer and more comfortable services to users. "Philosophy of Hamamatsu Children's Museum" Children have an insatiable curiosity inside. Hamamatsu Children's Museum aims to create a loving environment where these children can fully express their childlike nature and play to their heart's content with peace of mind. In this environment, we hope that they will interact with many people and improve their social skills and creativity. In addition, we will foster an environment where parents who are raising important children who will lead the future can expand their mutual support network and enjoy raising their children while receiving specialized support for child-rearing. We believe that what children experience and imagine in a psychologically stable environment during this period will be incorporated into the long-term memory of the brain, becoming fertile soil for living a rich and happy life as a person. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] 1) Update some of the play equipment and interiors in the facility while maintaining the management philosophy and facility functions from the time the facility was first opened. 2) Minimize the period of temporary closure and complete the design and construction in the short period of one year. 3) In the renewal, we worked on the use of Tenryu wood (wood produced in the city), which is promoted by Hamamatsu City, and obtained FSC® Project Certification. We received the above request. [Solution] 1) We concept design a playground that incorporates the local characteristics of Hamamatsu, such as nature and industrial technology, and created mechanisms to foster interest and attachment to the area. 2) In order to create a "playground unique to Hamamatsu" that fosters the humanity and learning foundation of Hamamatsu children, we created original play equipment and space based on the theory of human development. 3) Tenryu cedar, a material produced in Hamamatsu City, is used for the hall, Daichi Zone (floors, walls, and some playground equipment), workshop room, and corridors. The FSC® project team, with Hamamatsu City as the manager and our company as the deputy manager, has obtained the international forest certification "FSC® Project Certification*," the first public similar children's facility in Japan. *FSC® Project Certification ・FSC® standards are an international forest certification system based in Germany and are the world's highest standard. ・FSC® certification = It is guaranteed that wood from properly managed forests is used. ・Hamamatsu City is particularly focused on using FSC® certified materials as a concrete action toward the SDGs. <Our project members> [Direction] Atsushi Suzuki [concept design] Mika Watanabe [Planning] Reimi Abe [Production] Akinobu Takahashi, Hironari Ota, Takehiro Ichijo [Sales/Project Management] Akinori Ogasawara, Haruka Tashiro ~Related Links~ [Release] NOMURA, Ltd. opens "Hamamatsu Castle" and "Hamamatsu Children's Museum," the first FSC® Project certified facilities in Japan to use domestic timber

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

~A station building as a community space where everyone can feel comfortable, not just waiting for trains~ Based on the concept of creating a place that fosters community, we conducted workshops and questionnaire surveys with local residents from the concept stage. We identified user needs and reflected them in the design. In order to create an opportunity to experience various cultures through books while spending time in the station building, we also set up a corner where people can read books and picture books. In order to convey the charm of local resources through the use of the station building, we actively used the local specialty "Obi cedar" in various places in the space, and planned and produced the creation of a space where users can experience the charm of Obi cedar through their own experience. [Customer's Issues/Requests] We received a request to turn Nichinan Station, which was a place with no place to go before the renovation and was only a place to get on and off trains, into a place that fosters the local community and feels the "charm of the area." [Solution] In order to convey the appeal of local resources through the use of the station building, we worked with the local design firm, Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. to actively use the local specialty "Obi cedar" throughout the space, and to create an opportunity for users to experience the appeal of Obi cedar through physical experience, we used wood for the station building facade and window frames while harmonizing with the forest behind the station building. In addition, we implemented a sign plan that allows the station to be recognized from afar, and produced a space that harmonizes and blends with the surrounding environment with a wood theme. [Customer feedback] People other than JR users have started to visit the station building, and it has been renovated into an attractive space where local people can gather. We would like to continue using the station building as a place for the local community, such as holding events in the future. <Our project members> [Sales] Ibe Reiko [Planning and production, workshop concept design, and design supervision] Matsumoto Mari ~Related links~ [News releases] ・ NOMURA, Ltd. opens old house restoration facility as first project in public-private partnership to revitalize the local area in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Comprehensive Partnership Agreement on Regional Revitalization" ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Regional Revitalization Corporate Exchange Program" ・ NOMURA works as a creative partner in co-creating the local community [Media coverage] ・2019.07.05 "Kensetsu Tsuushin Shimbun" ・2020.04.01 "Nichinan Television" ・2020.04.07 "Miyazaki Nichinichi Shimbun" [Related achievements] ・Plus D Nichinan branch ・Kiraku Obi Aiya Residence ・DENKEN PJM Photo: Park concept design Co., Ltd.

Green Stamp Karuizawa Dormitory Shoukan

Green Stamp Karuizawa Dormitory Shoukan

Shou-kan was built in 1892 in Nishikatamachi, Hongo-ku, Tokyo, as part of the residence of Count Abe, the former feudal lord of the former Fukuyama domain. In 1971, Tokio Kasuga, founder of Green Stamp Co., Ltd., relocated and restored it to Karuizawa, where it has been used as a memorial hall for the Green Stamp Karuizawa dormitory. In 2020, Shou-kan was renovated at the same time as the new annex as a retreat facility for both Green Stamp Co., Ltd. and Kenedix, Inc. We were responsible for the design and interior administration of the Shou-kan renovation, including seismic retrofitting, as well as the installation of FF&E for the entire facility. [Social Issues / Customer Issues / Requests] Various extensions and renovations have been made since the original relocation, and the only connection to the annex was via a corridor, which caused structural stress and led to subsidence. The entire facility was aging, and the Shoyukan was difficult to use in winter due to Karuizawa's climate, and although it was originally designed with tatami mats, its use had decreased due to changes in Japanese lifestyles. However, they wanted to renovate it while preserving as much of its original appearance as possible. [Solution] After investigating the Shoyukan, they restored it to its original simple form as much as possible, performed a seismic diagnosis, and reinforced the structure to withstand earthquake forces equivalent to those stipulated in the Building Standards Act. The building faces the annex across the courtyard, giving it a sense of unity as a whole facility. While respecting the original design as much as possible, they aimed to extend the period of use, including in winter, except for the coldest months, by installing insulation and air conditioning equipment in the parts that cannot be seen. They installed floor heating and replaced it with flooring, and the walls added for seismic resistance expressed the original walls, fixtures, and image of the time, while the upper half of the space retained as much of the original design as possible. <Our project members> [Sales] Kayumi Tatsumi [Survey, design, layout and interior administration] NAU1: Norio Koito [Production and construction] Mikiya Fujitaka

Nihonbashi Toyama Museum

Nihonbashi Toyama Museum

[Project summary] "Nihonbashi Toyamakan" is a comprehensive information receiving and transmitting center that can sell products, provide tourist information, and hold exchange events, with a restaurant where you can experience the taste of Toyama as its main focus. Materials and traditional crafts from Toyama Prefecture are used throughout the space, and it is a new base that conveys the beautiful nature, diverse culture, and food charm of Toyama that are the background, rather than simply selling products, and conveys "quality living in Toyama" that makes people think "I want to visit Toyama Prefecture". We assisted with consulting, design, layout, building execution, event management, and PR support. [Challenge/theme] "A place to convey quality living in Toyama" The theme was to not only get things, but also to convey experiences, leading to the revitalization of industry, tourism, etc. [Solution] We put into practice the proposal to "revitalize the facility by introducing a new purpose that will be a centripetal force." Utilizing our CSV solutions for creating public spaces, "Forester Project" (*1) and "Japan Value Project" (*2), we were able to realize a plan and design that would not just be a product center, but one that can be utilized for the various regional revitalization measures that Toyama Prefecture is aiming for, such as tourism, industry, and immigration. For the wood used for the tables and chairs that are actually used, our designers visited sawmills in Toyama Prefecture and selected local materials, including cedar and keyaki, for the building. "Forester Project" (*1) A project to create facility development that creates a strong impression of the regional brand while supporting forestry by producing facility interiors, furniture, and fixtures using domestic materials that are characteristic of the region. "Japan Value Project" (*2) An initiative to collaborate with businesses across the country that handle traditional techniques and materials, and provide a place to promote them by incorporating their specifications into the facility. <Our project members> [Development/Project Management] Fujinaka Ryuichi [Sales Promotion] Sato Noboru, Tanaka Nobuyuki [Planning] Suzuki Megumi, Fujinaka Ryuichi [Creative Direction] Suzuki Megumi [design, layout] Hanaoka Yutaka [Sign/Graphic concept design] Ito Hisae (Cloth) [Production/ construction] Marumori Yukio [Other (Event Planning, PR Support, etc.)] Fujinaka Ryuichi
