Daiichi Shofuku Maru
overview
For humans, whose natural habitat is land, spending long periods at sea is stressful both physically and mentally.
To achieve this balance, the design actively incorporates land-based elements that are in opposition to sea-based elements. For example, the verticality of plants growing vertically contrasts with the horizontality of the drifting sea surface; the straight lines of buildings and windows contrast with the curves of waves and fish; and the weightiness of trees and rocks contrasts with the floating concept design of ships and bubbles.
The exterior design deconstructs and reconstructs the shop's name, incorporating traditional Japanese patterns reminiscent of lanterns and interlocking wooden structures.
