Important Cultural Property Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward

Important Cultural Property Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward

Built in 1910 and designated an Important Cultural Property by the government in 1974, this wooden pseudo-Western-style building is representative of Hokkaido. It was closed from October 2018 due to the first large-scale preservation and repair work in 40 years, but reopened in April 2021. In accordance with the preservation and utilization plan based on the concept of "a public hall where everyone can watch, learn, and gather while protecting it," displays design concept is "HEROE'S JOURNEY," and it not only explains the architectural highlights, but also introduces the trajectory of the skills and thoughts of the famous and unknown predecessors (heroes) who were instrumental in the construction of the former Hakodate Ward Public Hall. Since the building itself is an Important Cultural Property, we took care in concept design not to damage the image of the scenery and the interior atmosphere, and we paid close attention to installing and adjusting the fixtures without fixing them at all to minimize damage. In addition, an AR smartphone app is used to provide multilingual explanations of the precious furniture and furnishings, and to recreate the way the rooms would have been used at the time. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] The number of visitors to the Public Hall has been declining in spite of the increase in the number of tourists to Hakodate, and the exterior, interior, and displays were quite old and damaged. In addition, the number of local visitors was low compared to the number of visitors, and there was a lack of information about the history of the building and the charm of its interior that would motivate visitors. Although it was built as a "building for the citizens," in order to preserve it while passing it on as the pride of the town, it was necessary to convey its value to people living today and have them use it. [Solution] We thought that it was important for future preservation and utilization plans to let people know the reason and value of the Public Hall. In accordance with the plan of Hakodate City, which prioritizes not affecting the preservation of the building as an Important Cultural Property, we created a video and displays to inform visitors that famous and unknown local predecessors were involved in the planning, and to increase awareness of it as a "public hall that citizens can be proud of." [Ball Game Room: History Table] When the ball game room was built, a billiard table was installed. The displays stand, which has a billiard table motif, features a 1/100 scale accessory kit for architectural models that shows the transition of people who use the hall, as well as tangible precious designs and building materials, and a map of Hakodate City's traditional buildings preservation district made of beautifully transparent colored acrylic cubes, adding a playful touch that will make you want to take photos. [Small Dining Room: Theater] The room that was used as a dining room has been remodeled into a small theater room to introduce the history leading up to the construction of the hall. [Each Room: AR Commentary] Using an AR app, you can enjoy motions that recreate the time of construction and transparent architectural structures, superimposed on the real scenery. displays commentary is non-contact and can be recorded and shared on your own smartphone. Yamba Lake Station Maruiwa

Yamba Lake Station Maruiwa

This project is one of the projects to help the residents of the areas that will be submerged due to the construction of the Yamba Dam to rebuild their lives and find meaning in life. For about six years, we were in charge of the basic plan, schematic design, working drawings, interior administration, and consulting work to support local management companies for the "regional development facilities" in the "Kawarayu District" and "Yokobe District" of the relevant areas. For the Yokobe Regional Development Facility, we not only planned the construction, but also supported the launch of the management body established in the district, and planned and produced the facility, including the attraction of companies to enter the market, consulting on restaurants run by residents, menu development, and management supervision of opening equipment. The facility concept design was based on the concept of "inheriting and developing the town's memories," and reproduced the former Naganohara Town Hall*, which had fulfilled its role after about 90 years of construction and was scheduled for demolition, as a symbol of the district. We designed the facility to create an opportunity for the children who will be the future leaders of the district and the tourists who visit, to see the town's history, and to help the new businesses that will be run here lead to the regeneration, reconstruction, and development of the district. *The old government building, built in 1929 (Showa 4), was a two-story wooden building with a hipped roof and a Japanese-Western style exterior with a porch and a gabled roof on top. It was also said to be the only wooden government building in Gunma Prefecture. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] [Business] With the construction of the Yamba Dam, it was requested to establish a new business that had never been done before in this area, as a facility for the residents of the area to be submerged and rebuild their lives and find meaning in life. In addition, it was requested that the facility be differentiated from facilities planned in other areas and similar facilities, and that it have the ability to attract customers and be unique. [concept design] It was requested that the old government building, which is filled with people's memories, be utilized in some way, that it be visible from the busy national highway from the perspective of attracting customers, and that it be planned to attract passersby. It was also requested that the plan take advantage of the view that allows the Yamba Dam to be seen in the distance and the lake to be seen in the distance. [Solution] [Business] In order to realize the request, we focused on the following three points: first, to make suggestions to make the business ideas of the local residents possible; second, to differentiate the local regional development facilities between "Yokobe District" and "Kawarayu District"; and third, to strongly support the launch of a local parent company. In this project, we aimed to "open a restaurant," which none of the local people had experience in, and promoted it in a way that was close to the characteristics of the area and the characteristics of the business. In particular, we had many conversations about "looking for the Yokobe District's uniqueness" and "utilizing local recipes," and developed menus together, and promoted a plan that was closely tied to the area. For the prototype and tasting session, we invited professional chefs to support the local people in raising their awareness, revitalizing the area by improving their cooking skills, and strengthening their self-sufficiency. [concept design] When converting the function of the town hall to Lake Station, we surveyed the existing building and decided to recreate it in a modern update while taking into consideration the nostalgia of the former town hall building. The retro and distinctive design of the old government building has been reproduced to create a visual appeal. In addition, by creating an open opening facing Yamba Dam, the location has one of the best views of any facility around the dam lake. Furthermore, in order to maintain the style of the old government building while conforming to current regulations, careful consideration was given to the structural design. <Our project members> [Sales/Project Management] Arai Satoshi, Yamamoto Hitomi [Planning/Consulting] Sakazume Kenichi, Shimokuni Yuki [design, layout] NAU: Kirioka Sakae, Osano Nana

Hamamatsu Castle

Hamamatsu Castle

The keep of Hamamatsu Castle is a park facility built in 1958 with donations from citizens. 60 years had passed since its completion, and displays and decorations in the facility were deteriorating. This project is a renewal project in displays area to enhance the attractiveness of Hamamatsu Castle Park as a central park and to improve the satisfaction of citizens and visitors in the 450 year anniversary of the construction of Hamamatsu Castle by Tokugawa Ieyasu. At our company, I was in charge of construction including interiors, sign graphics, video software hardware, lighting and electrical work, and design construction of furniture and fixtures. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] ・ Introduces the history of the castle from Hikima Castle, the predecessor of Hamamatsu Castle, to the construction, reconstruction, and dismantlement of Hamamatsu Castle, to Hamamatsu Castle Park. ・ The ruins of castles in the city which can be visited are introduced, and the multi-layered history of Hamamatsu Castle and the appearance of castles in various parts of the city are conveyed. ・ Give a sense of unity to the current displays stories and the historical background. Production of multilingual panels and digital video content: displays. ・ Examination of traffic lines and concept design considering operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. ・ Acquired FSC® project certification using FSC® certified Tenryu wood (municipal wood). I received the above request. [Solution] ・ We designed the plan by zoning it into "passion," "state of affairs" and "scene" layers, focusing on the fact that "young Ieyasu" lived in Hamamatsu Castle and the historical background in which Ieyasu was placed at that time and the people who surrounded him, centering on those 17 years. ・ Produced a passion stage expressing the "passion" of young Ieyasu. The history of Hamamatsu Castle from Hikima Castle, the predecessor of Hamamatsu Castle, to its construction, reconstruction, and dismantlement to Hamamatsu Castle Park was introduced in a panoramic theater using existing models. ・ Utilizing Tenryu cedar, a material produced in Hamamatsu City, for the "scene" layer on the third floor. During the renovation, the castle became the first castle in Japan to receive FSC® project certification. [Customer Comments] In this renewal, the current status and issues of the castle tower have been accurately summarized, and images using the latest technology and recent discoveries and research have been incorporated into the overall renewal. In addition, there was an introduction of castle ruins that can be visited in the city, and explanations of places related to Ieyasu, legends, and food culture, etc. The newly redesigned Hamamatsu Castle was not only a place for learning, but also a facility to look back on the history of Hamamatsu, including the reconstructed castle tower. Visitors commented, "I can clearly understand the origin of Hamamatsu Castle," and "It has become fashionable." The City of Hamamatsu recognizes that the park has enhanced its appeal as a central park, improved the satisfaction of citizens and visitors, and improved its function as a hub for regional revitalization and tourism exchange. < our company Project Members > [Direction] Suzuki Atsushi [concept design] Horikoshi Sayaka [Planning] Inagaki Mima [Production/construction] Takahashi Akinobu [Sales/Project Management] Ogasawara Akinori, Tashiro Haruka [Related Links] [Release] NOMURA opens the first FSC® project certified facilities using domestic materials, Hamamatsu Castle and Hamamatsu Children's Museum

Hamamatsu Children's Museum

Hamamatsu Children's Museum

Hamamatsu Children's Museum opened in November 2001 with the aim of providing healthy play, creative experiences, and a place for interaction for children, and supporting the healthy development and child-rearing of children who will lead the next generation. The purpose of this project was to concept design the interiors environment, including the play equipment, which had become old and outdated after about 18 years since the museum opened, and to provide safer and more comfortable services to users. "Philosophy of Hamamatsu Children's Museum" Children have an insatiable curiosity inside. Hamamatsu Children's Museum aims to create a loving environment where these children can fully express their childlike nature and play to their heart's content with peace of mind. In this environment, we hope that they will interact with many people and improve their social skills and creativity. In addition, we will foster an environment where parents who are raising important children who will lead the future can expand their mutual support network and enjoy raising their children while receiving specialized support for child-rearing. We believe that what children experience and imagine in a psychologically stable environment during this period will be incorporated into the long-term memory of the brain, becoming fertile soil for living a rich and happy life as a person. [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] 1) Update some of the play equipment and interiors in the facility while maintaining the management philosophy and facility functions from the time the facility was first opened. 2) Minimize the period of temporary closure and complete the design and construction in the short period of one year. 3) In the renewal, we worked on the use of Tenryu wood (wood produced in the city), which is promoted by Hamamatsu City, and obtained FSC® Project Certification. We received the above request. [Solution] 1) We concept design a playground that incorporates the local characteristics of Hamamatsu, such as nature and industrial technology, and created mechanisms to foster interest and attachment to the area. 2) In order to create a "playground unique to Hamamatsu" that fosters the humanity and learning foundation of Hamamatsu children, we created original play equipment and space based on the theory of human development. 3) Tenryu cedar, a material produced in Hamamatsu City, is used for the hall, Daichi Zone (floors, walls, and some playground equipment), workshop room, and corridors. The FSC® project team, with Hamamatsu City as the manager and our company as the deputy manager, has obtained the international forest certification "FSC® Project Certification*," the first public similar children's facility in Japan. *FSC® Project Certification ・FSC® standards are an international forest certification system based in Germany and are the world's highest standard. ・FSC® certification = It is guaranteed that wood from properly managed forests is used. ・Hamamatsu City is particularly focused on using FSC® certified materials as a concrete action toward the SDGs. <Our project members> [Direction] Atsushi Suzuki [concept design] Mika Watanabe [Planning] Reimi Abe [Production] Akinobu Takahashi, Hironari Ota, Takehiro Ichijo [Sales/Project Management] Akinori Ogasawara, Haruka Tashiro ~Related Links~ [Release] NOMURA, Ltd. opens "Hamamatsu Castle" and "Hamamatsu Children's Museum," the first FSC® Project certified facilities in Japan to use domestic timber

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

JR Nichinan Line Nichinan Station Building

~A station building as a community space where everyone can feel comfortable, not just waiting for trains~ Based on the concept of creating a place that fosters community, we conducted workshops and questionnaire surveys with local residents from the concept stage. We identified user needs and reflected them in the design. In order to create an opportunity to experience various cultures through books while spending time in the station building, we also set up a corner where people can read books and picture books. In order to convey the charm of local resources through the use of the station building, we actively used the local specialty "Obi cedar" in various places in the space, and planned and produced the creation of a space where users can experience the charm of Obi cedar through their own experience. [Customer's Issues/Requests] We received a request to turn Nichinan Station, which was a place with no place to go before the renovation and was only a place to get on and off trains, into a place that fosters the local community and feels the "charm of the area." [Solution] In order to convey the appeal of local resources through the use of the station building, we worked with the local design firm, Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. to actively use the local specialty "Obi cedar" throughout the space, and to create an opportunity for users to experience the appeal of Obi cedar through physical experience, we used wood for the station building facade and window frames while harmonizing with the forest behind the station building. In addition, we implemented a sign plan that allows the station to be recognized from afar, and produced a space that harmonizes and blends with the surrounding environment with a wood theme. [Customer feedback] People other than JR users have started to visit the station building, and it has been renovated into an attractive space where local people can gather. We would like to continue using the station building as a place for the local community, such as holding events in the future. <Our project members> [Sales] Ibe Reiko [Planning and production, workshop concept design, and design supervision] Matsumoto Mari ~Related links~ [News releases] ・ NOMURA, Ltd. opens old house restoration facility as first project in public-private partnership to revitalize the local area in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Comprehensive Partnership Agreement on Regional Revitalization" ・Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture and NOMURA sign "Regional Revitalization Corporate Exchange Program" ・ NOMURA works as a creative partner in co-creating the local community [Media coverage] ・2019.07.05 "Kensetsu Tsuushin Shimbun" ・2020.04.01 "Nichinan Television" ・2020.04.07 "Miyazaki Nichinichi Shimbun" [Related achievements] ・Plus D Nichinan branch ・Kiraku Obi Aiya Residence ・DENKEN PJM Photo: Park concept design Co., Ltd.

Shikoku Aquarium

Shikoku Aquarium

[Exploring the story of water and life] -An aquarium for adults that changes with the waterscape/enjoys expression- This aquarium is themed on the diverse waterscape of Shikoku, which is surrounded by the sea on all sides and has many clear streams and countless reservoirs. In front of you is the Seto Inland Sea, a beautiful archipelago that Japan is proud of around the world. Enjoy a rich time watching the dolphins living in a pool that blends into the beautiful sea. The interior of the aquarium is designed with "sound, light, scent" and the "flow of displays" to allow visitors to "enjoy the changing expressions." We aimed to create an aquarium where visitors can come into contact with the history and culture woven by living things and people, and awaken their five senses. [Social issues/customer issues/requests] There was an issue of wanting an environmental design that would make the aquarium a place of integrated customer satisfaction that goes beyond just exhibiting living things. Shikoku Aquarium is also the gateway to Shikoku. An environmental design appropriate for such a facility was needed. [Solution] We proposed an environmental design that would allow visitors to "enjoy expression." displays concept was "Exploring the story of water and life," and various contents were created to promote the new Shikoku-ness. ・Welcome Booth Nihonkaisui, which has been dealing with marine resources, is here to convey the charm of the oceans of Shikoku at Shikoku Aquarium. The design expresses the form that is derived by combining the form that Shikoku Aquarium aims for and Nihonkaisui's corporate philosophy. The booth is made up of an aquarium presentation using artificial seawater, which is a company product, and a video presentation that evokes salt art. [Customer feedback] ・Welcome Booth We asked them to create a space that would be displays for the aquarium and also serve as our corporate branding, and it turned out to be a classy booth that harmonizes our main product, salt, with living creatures. It was well received by visitors, and we feel that it has greatly contributed to improving our company's image. <Our project members> [Sales and project management] Tatsuya Fujii, Teruko Takai [design, layout] Kaoru Sone, Sho Inanobe, Yuichiro Ishida, Yoshihime Taka [Production and construction] Takeshi Suezaki / Nomura Techno Co., Ltd.: Shigeo Nagao / Nomura Products Co., Ltd.: Yoshiyuki Yamazaki

Shiga Prefectural Lake Biwa Museum Phase 3 Renewal

Shiga Prefectural Lake Biwa Museum Phase 3 Renewal

Lake Biwa Museum opened in 1996 with the mission of building a better coexistence between the lake and humans together with the local people, and underwent renovation work over three phases over a period of six years from 2015. This third phase involves the renovation of displays rooms A and B. displays displays A is entitled "4 million years of the lake and us - the ever-changing Lake Biwa" and introduces the changes in Lake Biwa, nature, and creatures 4 million years ago, along with their relationship with the current environment. Each corner conveys the story of Lake Biwa and its creatures, which have continued to change dramatically, and the charm of the Lake Biwa field, through the numerous fossils and geological specimens that have been collected since the museum opened, and reconstructed dioramas that allow visitors to experience the environment of the past. The B displays room is titled "20,000 Years of the Lake and Us - A History of Nature and Life," and introduces how humans have dealt with nature in the forest, waterside, lake, and village. Using the dragon, a symbol of nature from the human perspective, as a navigator, the exhibition follows the environmental history of Lake Biwa and explains how it is connected to our current lives (displays Room C). [Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests] The renewal challenge was to incorporate the latest technology into the old displays to evolve them into more advanced displays, and to develop the museum with universal concept design in mind to make it easy for everyone to use and enjoy. [Solution] By using new technology to upgrade the existing exhibits, such as a skeletal fossil of the Zdanski elephant and a "half-body, half-bone" specimen that was restored using a 3D scanner, and a Maruko boat with sails reconstructed using an AR app, we were able to make the latest displays results easier to understand and experience. Furthermore, from the design stage onwards, citizens and experts were invited to evaluate displays, and the displays was designed with universal concept design in mind, with ramps installed, exhibits that can be touched, mirrors installed so that people using stretchers can easily see displays, and explanations written in mirror writing. [Customer feedback] displays concept design was unified from the first to third periods, and displays incorporated the latest technology. displays introduction of experiential displays such as tactile and olfactory displays made displays enjoyable for everyone. Furthermore, the design that took universal concept design into consideration has made the museum easy for everyone to use and enjoy. <Our project members> [Sales and project management] Hiroko Yamase, Haruya Miwa [Direction] Tadashi Yuasa, Koki Mizuno [design, layout] Tadashi Yuasa, Koki Mizuno, Reiko Kagawa [Sign and graphic concept design] Tadashi Yuasa, Koki Mizuno, Yuki Higashihara [Production and construction] Hayato Ichimanda, Yoshito Inoue, Yuki Higashihara / Nomura Techno Co., Ltd.: Masaru Oishi

HOSEI MUSEUM

HOSEI MUSEUM

An experimental museum for "sustainability of human and global society." The front-runners who have gathered at Hosei University have accumulated practical knowledge to survive in freedom with an "enterprising spirit." The HOSEI Museum inherited that history, looked to the past and future of global society, and proceeded with the plan to become a magnetic field for knowledge dialogue that connects the inside and outside of the university across fields in order to realize a rich and fair society. We have been working consistently from the selection of candidate sites to planning, research, consulting, logo concept design, content concept design, and displays design and construction, and are still continuing to expand to other campuses. [Social issues / customer issues / requests] The HOSEI Museum was established as part of the university's long-term vision (HOSEI2030), and was planned with the aim of contributing to the development of education and research by widely displays, publicizing, and investigating and studying the school's history, educational and research results, and academic resources owned by the Hosei University School Corporation. [Customer feedback] We have been working to connect NOMURA, Ltd. with the university's abundant academic resources and to create a museum that will serve as a base for the Hosei brand. This museum is a place where students can learn about the university's rich history and individuality, and where alumni can look back on their time as students and look forward to the future together. We also hope that it will be a place where people outside of the university can think about the meaning and value of universities in society through the image of Hosei University. <Project members> [Sales and project management] Takahashi Kentaro [Research and planning] Watanabe Hajime, Nakase Naoko, Kuroda Chiho [Consulting] Watanabe Hajime, Shimizu Shunsuke, Nakase Naoko [design, layout] Shimizu Shunsuke, Kosugi Kyoko, Nakagawa Yuri [Production and construction] Hirao Ken [Replica production] Nomura Techno Co., Ltd.: Endo Nobuyuki

Tokyo International Airport Terminal 2 International Flight Facility "TOKYO AIR"

Tokyo International Airport Terminal 2 International Flight Facility "TOKYO AIR"

In conjunction with the expansion of the international facilities at Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport), we were in charge of concept design and construction of the commercial area facing the departure lobby. Aiming for a symbolic concept design appropriate for the new gateway to Japan, we expressed the future "sky" of "Tokyo," which floats in the "sky" like "clouds" and "wind" and blends with each other, changing its appearance infinitely. Countless objects made with cutting-edge 3D modeling design technology create the silhouettes of streamlined "clouds" and "wind," and the shifting light and color gradations create the "sky" that changes its expression infinitely. For example, the generous and grand expression of the "clouds" and "wind" felt in the distance is composed of a fine geometric arrangement of approximately 5,500 strip-shaped parts when you get closer. In addition, the change of time of day and seasons is expressed with the soft and delicate light and color shading of approximately 1,800 proprietary lights. The dynamism of Japanese sensibility, which repeats meticulousness and generosity, and the "Japanese aesthetic sense" that appreciates the changes of the seasons, such as the flurry of cherry blossoms, the scenery of waves, the autumn winds and the winter skies. By fusing these two elements into the space with unprecedented new technology, we challenged the possibilities of future spaces. <Our project members> [Sales/Project Management] Kazuyoshi Hikota [design, layout] Shinjiro Kondo [Production/ construction] Yoshiyuki Nakamura, Sora Udagawa, Ryosuke Takada
