"Tokyo Gift Palette" is a new shopping mall developed near the Yaesu North Exit of Tokyo Station, featuring 33 brands. The pillars and ceilings of this facility, a gateway to Tokyo, utilize recycled aluminum from the 700 series Shinkansen train cars that retired from the Tokaido Shinkansen in March 2020. Decorated with motifs such as "cherry blossom petals" and "noren" (traditional Japanese curtains), befitting a terminal station, the space has been transformed into a high-value, sustainable environment that connects people's feelings, leveraging the high quality and sophisticated feel unique to the 700 series Shinkansen. Our company participated in this project by Tokyo Station Development Co., Ltd., being involved from the development stage of the building materials and handling the production, construction production, and project management for interiors work in the environmental area. This is the first time that recycled aluminum, without any additives, has been used for decoration in a commercial space since the start of Shinkansen operations in 1964, and this project has received a development award from the Japan Aluminum Association.
