LOQUAT Villa SUGURO

This project involves renovating an old, traditional Japanese house in the Kodohi district of Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, into a rental accommodation facility. This district was once a quiet area where local magistrates resided, and the plan is to provide a stay that incorporates the surrounding environment, allowing guests to experience a slower pace of life that transcends time.

The main house features a kitchen and offers services such as dinner prepared by a visiting chef and alcoholic beverages served from a mobile bar. For interiors, we utilized local materials, attempting to create a space using local materials, just as in the Edo period, such as earthen walls made from local soil and a dining table made from locally sourced cherry wood.


[Social Issues / Customer Issues / Requests]
To make the most of the traditional Japanese house available for rent as a whole, we carefully considered the characteristics of the site and requested an attractive spatial concept design.


[Solution]
We incorporated features that maximize the surrounding views while preserving the charm of the existing building, as well as finishes that utilize local soil and other materials.
