overview

"A dining space that embodies the generous nature of the Seto Inland Sea."
The Setouchi region is blessed with beautiful scenery created by numerous islands, a mild climate, and abundant nature.

Mori no Machi Plaza is the commercial and healthcare facility building of the multi-purpose complex Mori no Machi Grace. Within it is a unique, large-scale food hall (approximately 2800 m²) that brings together the charms of Okayama and the Setouchi region. In this food hall, we planned a comfortable and spacious dining space, drawing inspiration from the generous natural surroundings.

The approximately 70-meter-high atrium features ceiling louvers designed to evoke the gentle and majestic waves of the Seto Inland Sea. The gently extending wave concept design connects the entire interior while also enveloping the seating area in a welcoming atmosphere. In the center, a "hill" has been created, connecting the first and second floors like a geographical feature, fostering a new sense of community.
This space can be used for a variety of purposes, such as having a light meal, reading, or relaxing, allowing everyone to find their favorite spot to spend time. Furthermore, the chairs and sofas are made from denim, a representative industry of Okayama, allowing you to experience the unique charm of this region.

We hope that this food hall will harmonize with the rich environment of the entire "Mori no Machi Grace" complex, and that it will be a beloved dining space for many years to come, where people can enjoy the charm of the Setouchi region, connect through food, and cultivate hope for the future.

Issues/requests

This project, “Mori no Machi,” was developed with the aim of creating a city that Okayama can boast to the world, and that people from all over the world will come to Setouchi. In addition, the food hall, which is the core of this, was required to create a space that conveys the charm of Setouchi to the world and draws out the uniqueness of Okayama.

solution

In the approximately 70m atrium space, ceiling louvers that express the calm and beautiful waves of the Seto Inland Sea create an overwhelming atrium space that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. Okayama denim is used for the upholstery of the bench seats in the food hall, contributing to local production for local consumption.
By adopting "reactive dyeing", a special dyeing method that does not transfer color, it can be used as upholstery and expanded the possibilities of new local industries.
