overview

"A dining space that embodies the generous nature of Setouchi"
The Setouchi region is blessed with beautiful scenery, a warm climate, and abundant nature created by its many islands.

Morinomachi Plaza is a commercial and healthcare facility building in the complex Morinomachi Grace. It contains a one-of-a-kind large food hall (approximately 2,800 m2) that brings together the charms of Okayama and the Setouchi region. Inspired by the vastness of nature, we designed this food hall to be a comfortable and relaxed dining space.

In the approximately 70m atrium space, we planned ceiling louvers that evoke the calm and majestic waves of the Seto Inland Sea. The gently extending wave concept design connects the entire restaurant and generously embraces the entire seating area. In the center, we also created a "hill" that connects the first and second floors like a terrain, creating a new community.
It is a gathering place that can be used for various purposes, where people can find their favorite place to spend time, whether it be having a snack, reading, relaxing, etc. Furthermore, denim, which represents Okayama's industry, is used for the chairs and sofas so that people can experience the unique charm of this area.

We hope that this food hall will harmonize with the rich environment of the entire "Forest Town Grace" and be loved for a long time as a dining space where people can enjoy the charm of Setouchi, connect through food, and foster hope for the future.

Issues/requests

This project, “Mori no Machi,” was developed with the aim of creating a city that Okayama can boast to the world, and that people from all over the world will come to Setouchi. In addition, the food hall, which is the core of this, was required to create a space that conveys the charm of Setouchi to the world and draws out the uniqueness of Okayama.

solution

In the approximately 70m atrium space, ceiling louvers that express the calm and beautiful waves of the Seto Inland Sea create an overwhelming atrium space that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. Okayama denim is used for the upholstery of the bench seats in the food hall, contributing to local production for local consumption.
By adopting "reactive dyeing", a special dyeing method that does not transfer color, it can be used as upholstery and expanded the possibilities of new local industries.
