overview

"A dining space that embodies the magnanimous nature of Setouchi"
Setouchi is blessed with beautiful landscapes made up of many islands, a warm climate, and abundant nature.

"Mori no Machi Plaza" is the commercial and healthcare facility building of the complex facility "Mori no Machi Grace". Among them is a one-of-a-kind large food hall (approximately 2,800 m2) that brings together the charms of Okayama and Setouchi. In this food hall, we have designed a comfortable and relaxed dining space inspired by the large nature.

In the approximately 70m atrium space, we planned a ceiling louver that evokes the calm and magnificent waves of the Seto Inland Sea. A wave concept design that stretches loosely connects the entire store and gently wraps the entire audience. In the center, we set up a “hill” that connects the 1st and 2nd floors like a topography to create a new community.
As a gathering place that can be used for various purposes, it will be a place where each person can find a place to eat, read, relax, and spend time. In addition, the chairs and sofas are made of denim, which is representative of Okayama industry, so that you can experience the unique charm of this area.

We hope that this food hall will be loved for a long time as a dining space where people can enjoy the charm of Setouchi, connect through food, and foster hopes for the future while harmonizing with the rich environment of Mori no Machi Grace. hoping.

Issues/requests

This project, “Mori no Machi,” was developed with the aim of creating a city that Okayama can boast to the world, and that people from all over the world will come to Setouchi. In addition, the food hall, which is the core of this, was required to create a space that conveys the charm of Setouchi to the world and draws out the uniqueness of Okayama.

solution

In the approximately 70m atrium space, ceiling louvers that express the calm and beautiful waves of the Seto Inland Sea create an overwhelming atrium space that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. Okayama denim is used for the upholstery of the bench seats in the food hall, contributing to local production for local consumption.
By adopting "reactive dyeing", a special dyeing method that does not transfer color, it can be used as upholstery and expanded the possibilities of new local industries.
