Umemura Gakuen 100th Anniversary 7th Special Exhibition “Special Olympics ~Be with All® Towards a society where everyone can thrive~”
overview
This exhibition was made possible by the conclusion of a comprehensive partnership agreement between Special Olympics Japan and Chukyo University in May 2022.
This special exhibition is held in the space of the Chukyo University Sports Museum, which pursues the diverse value of physical culture, and allows visitors to experience and learn about the charm of the Special Olympics, including the history and characteristics of Special Olympics activities, and domestic initiatives.
In addition, the Special Olympics promotes unified sports®, not only competitions for people with intellectual disabilities, but also aligns with the global trend toward "cohesive societies" and "social inclusion." The hope is that the exhibition will lead to ``the realization of a society in which diverse people can live.''
Issues/requests
The Special Olympics Japan organization has established bases and regional organizations across the country, and has continued to hold domestic competitions and send athletes to world competitions, focusing on activities in each region. As a challenge, we had a plan to expand our business area with a focus on athletes' social participation.
Therefore, as part of our efforts to increase social participation, the challenge was how to convey the concept of diversity through the Special Olympics to the general public in an easy-to-understand manner through an exhibition.
solution
First, our design team interviewed Special Olympics Nippon, engaging in dialogue to discuss their materials and challenges. displays content was developed based on the concept of "Be with all," which focuses on the social participation of athletes, the theme of the exhibition. Specifically, we aimed to broaden social recognition through a visually striking spatial concept design that prominently features the red color and circular shape of the logo. In addition, we adopted a reusable display system so that displays can be toured to various locations throughout Japan in the future.
Furthermore, the promotional leaflet for the exhibition, which serves as the face of the event, is designed to convey a strong message and appeal, while also reflecting the spatial concept design concept. Our company is sponsoring this exhibition through concept design support.
