Sky Patio

"Sky Patio" is a rooftop garden located on the 6th floor of "Pasela", a commercial facility in Motomachi Credo, located in the center of Hiroshima. Since 1994, it has been used as a place of relaxation for citizens, overlooking the city of Hiroshima, centered around Hiroshima Castle.

This project is positioned as the first step in the Motomachi Credo revitalization project, which aims to revitalize the Motomachi Credo facility structure, including the site of the new Sogo Hiroshima store, which closed in August 2023, and the current Pasela, and create a new "Pasela."

The new "Sky Patio" aims to provide an extraordinary experience with a newly installed large-screen monitor and a rooftop bar that takes advantage of the night view, as well as to create an environment in which visitors can have a variety of fun ways by creating a space that fosters expectations for the new Motomachi Credo through the provision of a babbling brook and grassy hill that families can enjoy as well.

The challenge for this project was to renovate the space to create a space that would convey the "new Hiroshima."
Hiroshima is currently experiencing a redevelopment boom, and the facility is located in the center of the city. The request was for it to provide a view of the nearby soccer stadium, EDION Peace Wing Hiroshima, which is scheduled to open in February 2024, while also allowing visitors to feel the community's development as one.

By turning the tower-shaped monument that existed before the renovation, which was on the axis towards Hiroshima Castle, into a shining bench, we were able to preserve the memory of the Sky Patio while lowering the center of gravity to create a space where people can better enjoy the view of Hiroshima, where they can gather, experience a new Hiroshima, and talk with each other.
