overview

The Saga Prefectural Space Science Museum "Yumeginga" was established in 1999 as a communication facility connecting people and science. Since 2006, our company has been the representative of the "designated manager," and currently operates it jointly with Mavec Co., Ltd.

The concepts are to "nurture children's scientific curiosity," "convey the wonder of discovery and creation," and "to foster a comprehensive understanding of space, Earth, and Saga, and to discover and recognize their relationship to oneself."
We planned displays that enhance learning while also appealing to tourists and generating buzz nationwide. This facility has three displays: the "Saga Discovery Zone," the "Earth Discovery Zone," and the "Space Discovery Zone," and our company was in charge of all zones when the facility opened.
Then, in the quarter-century since its opening, the "Earth Discovery Zone" underwent a complete renovation, and in 2024, the "Space Discovery Zone" was completely renovated.

There is as much excitement in the universe as there are stars

The concept behind the renewal of the "Space Discovery Zone" is "A Long Journey to Space." It connects two perspectives—space science, which seeks to unravel the mysteries of space, and space activities, in which humanity challenges itself to explore space—through the theme of "life."
The entire displays space grandly depicts where our lives originate, where we are headed, and how we interact with the universe. Furthermore, we aimed to create displays experience that makes the universe feel closer and broadens one's perspective, leading to connections with the two existing zones on other floors.

Issues/requests

For the complete renovation of the "Space Discovery Zone" in 2024, we received a request to create an environment that promotes programs that familiarize visitors with science using "space" as a starting point, thereby creating a facility that will increase interest in space, Earth, and Saga, as well as scientific interest, among children and other visitors, and further contribute to increasing their motivation to learn.

solution

Aiming to create displays connects space to Earth and then to Saga, we added new panels that emphasize connections within existing zones, giving the entire museum a sense of unity. Furthermore, by presenting various space-related interactive content and the latest research findings in an easy-to-understand manner, we aimed to stimulate the intellectual curiosity of visitors of all generations and increase their interest in space.
