overview

This is the third phase of the renovation project for the visitor facilities at Nikka Whisky's Yoichi Distillery, which will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2024.
In addition to renovating the aging displays explanations in the Taketsuru Residence entrance hall, I was responsible for installing new directional signs in the visitor parking lot, renovating existing directional signs in other facilities, and creating a new monument as a photo spot, all to make it easier for visitors to tour the grounds.

Issues/requests

Due to the aging of displays at the entrance of the Taketsuru Residence, displays were not effectively engaging with visitors, as displays explanations were difficult to read. The challenge was to create displays structure that would allow visitors to more realistically experience the Taketsuru family's lifestyle, and to create displays content that would resonate more with visitors from a different perspective than that of the museum. In addition, many visitors arriving from the parking lot were confused about where to go, so guiding them smoothly from the museum to the restaurant and gift shop was a challenge.

solution

The main theme of the Taketsuru Residence displays was to allow visitors to experience the Taketsuru family's loving and meticulous private life, while also increasing their appreciation for the Nikka brand. The new displays aims to deepen appreciation for and interest in the Nikka brand by showcasing the Taketsuru family's lifestyle and their unique form of love. We have also incorporated historical displays to give visitors a more realistic sense of life at the Taketsuru Residence. In addition, we have designed new directional signs in the parking lot to be more eye-catching for visitors, and since most of the viewing area has become a reservation-only restricted area, we have revised the existing directional signs to align with our operational policies.

Customer's voice

We have received the following comments from our visitors:
displays as a whole was very interesting.
I really enjoyed listening to everyone's messages that were broadcast on the museum; they came across very clearly.
The historic factory, the museum with its great atmosphere, and the tasting room were all wonderful.
・A lot has changed since I came last year, and I felt that the introductory theater video and the intuitive way the museum is presented were all wonderful changes that left a lasting impression!
