Keio University Preventive Medicine Center
Set in Azabudai Hills, which has a "Modern Urban Village" concept based on the two pillars of Green & Wellness, Mori Building and Keio University have joined forces to create a preventive medicine center that will be an innovation hub aiming to realize next-generation preventive medicine. The center will expand and relocate from the university hospital in Shinanomachi to two floors on the 5th and 6th floors of Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower. The 5th floor will provide a personalized check-up where patients can order a test menu according to their wishes, and the 6th floor will provide a newly opened membership-based medical service called "Preventive Medicine Membership." AND was responsible for concept design of the common areas on the 5th and 6th floors, excluding the examination rooms.
The preventive medicine center, which will serve as the core facility for the wellness collaboration, was required to be a facility unlike any other in terms of its size and anticipated customer base.
To embody Keio University's mission of "Realizing a rich and long-lived society where all people can live healthy and vibrant lives," to be a place that caters to each individual with a sense of exclusivity and quality, and to be a genuine innovation hub that implements academic results in society and shows the future of preventive medicine, it was necessary to create a new type of preventive medicine facility that had never been seen before.
We thought that the best place to provide advanced preventive medical care would be a universal space that utilizes the natural power of materials. Since ancient times, natural materials have been known to create comfort and give people a sense of relaxation and peace of mind, but it is difficult to use them as interiors materials in modern medical facilities, especially in terms of hygiene, flammability, durability, and cost. However, the way this facility is designed means that visitors are not patients but examinees, and the doctor and examinee build an equal relationship, so that they leave feeling at ease, and the space is designed to relieve the examinees' tension and induce natural communication. Therefore, we went back to basics and reexamined natural materials such as natural stone, solid wood, and washi paper, aiming to create a universal, high-quality space like an urban resort, even though it is a building in the city center.
Patients have given it rave reviews, saying it's great that it doesn't have a hospital or clinic atmosphere.
