overview

Tokio Marine Group will establish a new facility in Ginza, Tokyo in April 2021 as a base for “agile development” that repeats verification and improvement in a short period of time. The engineers and designers of Tokio Marine & Nichido Systems will be concentrated to provide digital insurance. The purpose of this workplace is to promote the development of new products and services.

The 4 floors of the existing building will be renovated, and the 1st floor will be an entrance gallery with a user interview room. The 3rd and 4th floors are office spaces for Tokio Marine & Nichido Systems. The 5th floor is configured as a co-working space that promotes co-creation inside and outside the company, and is concept design with the concept of a “creative social space” where communication is centered on creating a chain of creative activities, rather than an office as a place to work.
Tokio Marine Group's message that "insurance is born from adventure and exists to support people's challenges" is the axis of the entire facility. I try to create concept design that exudes from the space the attitude of taking on challenges without fear of failure.
As a place to accelerate the fusion of insurance and digital, we hope that this facility, named G/D Lab., will be a place to support new adventures for the future.

[Social Issues/Customer Issues/Requests]
The customer had a keyword of "diversity" in order to express the concept of a "creative social space" where various human resources gather. The goal was to design

【solution】
From the perspective of creating a comfortable environment, the lighting plan for the work area incorporates the idea of circadian rhythms and employs fixtures that allow timer settings of color temperature and illuminance from morning to evening.
In addition, most of the fixtures are movable so that they can respond flexibly to various work styles. Some of the furniture materials are designed to be environmentally friendly by adopting recycled boards made from upcycled waste paper and waste plastic.
