Enhancing spatial value through creative ideas and technological innovation.
NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group is committed to enhancing the value that spaces bring through creative ideas and technological innovation.
[CASE 1]
Opening of Creative Lab.
NOMURA Co.,Ltd. conducts research and implementation to update the value of space through its in-house research and development organization, the "Future Creation Institute," in collaboration with companies and research institutions. Currently, it is working on six themes: future foresight, sustainable concept design, inclusion & art, regional concept design, the study Delight and Passion, and future prototyping. In February 2025, the company renovated its office and opened "Creative Lab.," a space within the company that will serve as the activity base for the Future Creation Institute.
"Creative Lab." is a space for people to connect and conduct experiments and challenges to create the future of space. The open 330m² space functions as a workplace where employees from various specialized fields can think about the future of space through cross-functional dialogue and actually create prototypes, as well as a showcase function displays and make public PoCs, demonstration experiments, and projects that are under consideration for implementation, both inside and outside the company, and a community function to build new relationships with external parties through research activities. The flooring materials and racks that make up the space are also actually used, which were produced through corporate co-creation. Long-term usage conditions will be verified and used to improve the space.
The Future Creation Institute will continue to update the space by creating new value through research, discovery, and exchange at the "Creative Lab."

Delight and Passion of space
For over 130 years, NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. has been involved in creating diverse spaces such as exhibitions, commercial facilities, and offices. They have continued to challenge themselves to unravel the relationship between people and space from an academic and scientific perspective. They have compiled a record of their new research, which tackles the fundamental question of "what constitutes Delight and Passion in space," into a book, which is being published by Nikkei BP.

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. is exploring, through a scientific and academic approach, how the power inherent in space connects to human emotions, behavior, memory, and lasting satisfaction, focusing on three axes: "Research on people," "Research on space," and "Interaction between people and space." Through diverse research on space and human emotions and behavior, the infinite possibilities of space become apparent. This book is packed with new perspectives and creative hints that we want to convey to those involved in space creation and those who use space.

[CASE 3]
Exhibiting artwork at concept design events

We exhibited "Being: The Existence of Furniture" at "DESIGNART TOKYO 2024". We feel a major challenge when objects created in spatial concept design are discarded or left unused while still perfectly usable. We realized that when an object is used carefully for a long time, an attachment to the object develops, and the feeling changes from "owning and using" to "being together". The furniture we exhibited has a certain instability and capriciousness, and possesses a nature that makes you want to care for it. If furniture changes from being merely "there" to being an existence that "is there", how will we interact with them? Through a series of experimental concept design, this project became a question to society about the transformation of value between people and objects.
