On March 21, 2024, NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. was selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as one of the best practices for "barrier-free hearts" in fiscal year 2023.
"Barrier-free hearts" means thinking about a society and environment where everyone can participate equally, and continuing to take the necessary actions. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is registering companies that are working to raise awareness among their employees as "Tokyo Metropolitan Government Barrier-Free Hearts" Support Companies, and is working to foster social momentum for this.

"Barrier-free Mind" Good Practice Companies are selected from among the companies registered as support companies that are implementing particularly outstanding initiatives from the perspectives of innovation, uniqueness, ripple effects, etc.

Our company mainly carried out the following activities.

① Conduct diversity and inclusion training
In fiscal year 2020, we began video-based D&I training for all employees. The attendance rate in 2020 was 80%, and has increased to 90% in 2020. In fiscal year 2020, in addition to training aimed at learning basic knowledge and terminology related to D&I, we are holding workshops to promote self-understanding and understanding of others among employees, with participants raising their hands if they wish. We also plan to continue implementing this program from next year onwards.

② Conduct exchange events to deepen understanding of disabilities.
We held a café at Head Office office where students with stuttering worked as staff in customer service (a café where ordering takes time). This provided an opportunity for the café staff, who themselves have stuttering, and the participating employees to deepen their mutual understanding. The café staff with stuttering commented that "it was a new realization for me to understand how people who don't often encounter stuttering perceive 'me with stuttering'."

③ Implementation of work experience at special needs schools
We conducted work experience for elementary and junior high school students who belong to special needs classes. This event was born from the needs of the field, where there are few opportunities for special needs students to experience the workplace, and we held a workshop to recreate the city of Odaiba using waste materials from our field. It has been well received by teachers and students, and we plan to continue implementing it from next year onwards.

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group has adopted "respect for human rights, acceptance of work styles and diversity, and human resource development" as one of its sustainability policies. We are working to build a foundation for accepting a wide range of diversity, including age, gender, disability, nationality, race, and values.
