NOMURA Co.,Ltd. 's Social Good Activities: JR Central x NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Open an office using recycled aluminum from Shinkansen trains and local materials to contribute to environmental conservation and regional revitalization.

A socially good initiative that leads to CO2 reduction through the recycling of recycled aluminum, floor waste, and thinned wood
 

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Co., Ltd. was involved from the concept development stage of "EXPRESS WORK-Lounge" and "EXPRESS WORK-Office," the first membership-based workspaces opened by Central Japan Railway Company (hereinafter referred to as JR Central) in December 2021, and was in charge of spatial concept design, construction, and related project management. "EXPRESS WORK-Lounge" is a interiors good space that is friendly to workers, the community, and the environment, using upcycled* aluminum from the Tokaido Shinkansen 700 series train cars (hereinafter referred to as recycled aluminum) and thinned Fuji cypress wood for the interior.
 

We believe that there will be an increasing demand in the future to respond to the need to decentralize offices and to create an environment where Shinkansen passengers can work seamlessly before and after boarding. We believe that this initiative will support diverse work styles and lead to the dissemination of local resources and regional revitalization.
 

 

Efforts in the aluminum upcycling project for the700 Series Shinkansen
 

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd., which promotes social good activities, supports JR Central's efforts in global environmental conservation and regional revitalization, and is involved in JR Central's upcycling project for the 700 series Shinkansen aluminum, from the development stage of building materials to design cooperation and construction.
 

In August 2020, recycled aluminum was used for the pillars and ceilings of the "Tokyo Gift Palette" shopping mall at the Yaesu North Exit of Tokyo Station, and decorations inspired by "cherry blossom petals" and "noren" (traditional Japanese curtains) were added, befitting a terminal station (this was the first time recycled aluminum had been used for decoration in a commercial space since the start of Shinkansen operations in 1964 / it received the "Good concept design Award" in 2021). In April 2021, in collaboration with JR Tokai Trading Co., Ltd., recycled aluminum was used for some fixtures, including the cash register counter, in The Body Shop's new store concept, "Activist Workshop" (this was the first time recycled aluminum had been provided as a building material for store interiors outside of the JR Tokai Group).
