overview

"EXPRESS WORK" is a new workplace for JR Central's EX service ("Express Reservation" and "Smart EX") members*1. In the Marunouchi Chuo Building, it consists of two sections: the drop-in type "EXPRESS WORK-Lounge" and the small rental office "EXPRESS WORK-Office." We have been involved since the concept formulation stage and were in charge of project management, spatial concept design, and construction.

"EXPRESS WORK-Lounge" and "EXPRESS WORK-Office" are directly connected to Tokyo Station and are located in an area with excellent access, making them an extremely convenient environment, especially for business users who use the Shinkansen. The space is a socially good space that reflects JR Central's efforts to protect the global environment and revitalize local areas.
interiors materials used are made from upcycled aluminum (hereinafter referred to as recycled aluminum) from the 700 series Tokaido Shinkansen carriages, and FUJI HINOKI MADE wood, a brand of Fuji cypress wood provided by Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, which is located along the Tokaido Shinkansen line. With a faint cypress scent, the space is soothing for business users.

*1 How to use "EXPRESS WORK-Lounge": In addition to being an EX Service member, you must also register as an "EXPRESS WORK" member.
*2 Upcycling: The act of giving new added value, such as concept design or ideas, to waste materials that would otherwise be thrown away, upgrading them into new products and giving them a new lease of life. (Source: IDEAS FOR GOOD)

Issues/requests

In creating the first workplace for JR Tokai, we were requested to create a space that would realize two themes: a space with a message such as the SDGs, and a smart design and enhanced functionality for business users. rice field.

solution

In the space, we used materials that are closely related to JR Tokai, such as recycled aluminum from Shinkansen bullet trains and wood from Fuji cypress, making use of the various relationships with JR Tokai.
・Recycled aluminum reduces CO2 emissions by 97% because it requires less energy to manufacture than new aluminum.
・Using carpet tiles made from recycled floor waste materials, we have made effective use of environmental load and resources.
・In cooperation with local governments along the Tokaido Shinkansen, we are working to convey the appeal of local resources to users. In this office, the reception counter uses thinnings of Fuji cypress for the top plate, and the plastered wall with paint mixed with powdered offcuts gives off the scent of cypress, increasing the concentration and relaxing effect of users. is bringing

The layout has also been designed to be simple and easy to use, even for first-time users. The furniture is selected from overseas brands that are concept design and have traceability.
