overview

Tokyo Gift Palette is a new specialty shopping mall developed near the Yaesu North Exit of Tokyo Station, and is home to 33 brands.
The pillars and ceilings of this facility, the gateway to Tokyo, are made from recycled aluminum that was used in the bodies of the 700 Series Shinkansen, which was retired from the Tokaido Shinkansen in March 2020. The facility is decorated in the image of cherry blossom petals and noren curtains, befitting a terminal station, and is a sustainable space with high added value that connects people's thoughts and feelings, taking advantage of the high quality and fine feel that is unique to the 700 Series Shinkansen.
Our company participated in a project by Tokyo Station Development Co., Ltd., and was involved from the development stage of building materials, and was in charge of production, construction production, and project management for the environmental area interiors work.

This is the first time since the start of Shinkansen service in 1964 that recycled aluminum that does not contain any additives has been used to decorate a commercial space, and this project received a Development Award from the Japan Aluminium Association.

Issues/requests

・With future labor shortages and building material shortages in mind, we would like to develop technology to turn Shinkansen aluminum into building materials and improve environmental conservation and business viability through recycling.
・By using recycled aluminum building materials, we can ensure the quality and safety of the space and ensure smooth construction operations during the coronavirus pandemic.

solution

We used our experience to offer advice on the production of recycled aluminum building materials and decorations. In the process of actually using recycled aluminum building materials as interiors materials, we continued to pursue quality and safety by making multiple prototypes and even conducting verification of full-scale mock-ups at our training center.
As a result, we have been able to realize Tokyo Station Development's ideal concept design in terms of sustainable manufacturing, which not only contributes to environmental conservation, but also improves business viability by reducing construction costs and promotes the culture of Tokyo Station.

Customer's voice

Thanks to your company's great cooperation and the overflowing enthusiasm of the person in charge, we were able to successfully open Tokyo Gift Palette.
