Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture and NOMURA Co., Ltd. have opened the TOYAMA TOWN TREKKING SITE, a new lifestyle hub with the theme of "from a closed gymnasium to a gymnasium that connects to the outside."
This project was adopted as a "Public Facility Opening and Renovation Project" by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in fiscal 2016, which aims to revitalize public facilities owned by local governments with the help of private sector creators and other organizations, and turn them into new business hubs. The aim is to "revitalize" the dead space of Toyama City General Gymnasium by renovating it into a multi-generational exchange hub where residents can go on town trekking (walking around the city) and other activities.
"TTS" is a complex that includes a cafe, sports shop, and studio. It provides facilities (hardware) to support town trekking, and regularly holds health education events (software) such as "food education" and "physical education." It operates as a new public service to support the health of Toyama citizens.
Taking advantage of its location next to Kansui Park, which is visited by 1.4 million people a year, the facility will be used not only by users of Toyama City General Gymnasium, but also as a base for exploring the wider area. This is a pioneering project in Japan that aims to have local residents experience an "extended healthy lifespan" and "improved quality of life (QOL)" and to create a "virtuous cycle model for residents' healthy behavior and the local economy" for the local government.
"TTS" provides "time and space to develop humanity, not just time or space, which is necessary for the health of people and cities," and slowly creates a "space" where you can share with someone something that belongs only to you and no one else.
