Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) Remote Digital displays "MIRAI-Bit"
MIRAI-Bit is a website where you can experience online on your personal device some of the content related to the permanent displays of Miraikan, which will be reopened in November 2023, including "Aging Park," which allows you to experience the aging that everyone experiences; "Nanairo Quest," which focuses on a future in which robots and humans live together; and "Planetary Crisis," which is about the global environment. In addition, we are running a traveling exhibition in various locations so that science museums and other facilities across the country can experience MIRAI-Bit. We were in charge of creating the content and designing and construction the traveling displays fixtures.
[Visualization of diverse thoughts and perspectives]
We want to build a website where not only the limited number of people who visit Miraikan, but also people living far from the museum, can experience content based on the latest scientific research. We also want to create a place where we can share hints for solving diverse problems by learning about the specific needs and issues rooted in each region and a wide range of opinions.
[Accessibility]
We want to provide displays content that can be enjoyed and experienced by people in wheelchairs and those with visual or hearing impairments.
[Usability]
We want to provide a space where visitors and non-visitors, from children to the elderly, can easily experience displays content in detail.
There were more requests than this.
We supported users in deepening their thoughts about various questions about the future through chat with "AI Bit," an original character of MIRAI-Bit equipped with GPT-4, a model of Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service. We also created a space where users could post more in-depth thoughts.
Opinions posted within the Miraikan displays on-site are also displayed within MIRAI-Bit, allowing users to come into contact with a wide range of opinions and diverse perspectives. The AI Bit incorporates elements that allow it to evolve in appearance through repeated dialogue, ensuring continuous access. In addition, a sound experience and easy-to-understand UI and UX have been implemented so that people with visual or hearing impairments can also enjoy the experience.
