Through research into "neurointelligence," a new academic field that combines life sciences, medicine, linguistics, mathematics, and information science, visitors can learn about the "intellectual brain," or our own brains, and get a real feel for the amazing power of our own brains, which we don't usually notice. What kind of ideal future can be opened up by the fusion of brain research and artificial intelligence (AI) research? This displays will provide a new perspective on "intelligence" from cutting-edge research and explore the great possibilities of the brain.
[Social issues/customer issues/requests]
Our goal was to reach out to a wide range of people, from those with an interest in science to the general public, while also developing activities that would lead to funding and, in the future, to international outreach activities with an eye toward expanding overseas.
the purpose
- Researchers and visitors will think together about "neurointelligence" and share the significance and joy of research.
- To have many young people who will pave the way for the future experience the joy of learning about themselves through the "Intellectual Brain" and become interested in "neurointelligence" and science.
- It will contribute to the global dissemination activities of the International Research Center for Neurointelligence (IRCN), an international institute for advanced studies at the University of Tokyo, regarding the necessity of basic research in science and technology.
With these objectives in mind, we began looking for solutions.
[Solution]
With the aim of outreaching the results of cutting-edge scientific research, planners and designers worked with researchers to consider, "What is neurointelligence?" and "What kind of worldview does IRCN aim for?" and after much discussion, they came up with displays.
In the process, rather than simply displays the results of research, we aimed to widely communicate the results of cutting-edge scientific research that combines neuroscience and AI research to the world, while encouraging the general public to become involved in the research on an individual level, creating a community that explores the ideal form of neuroscience and AI, and incorporating mechanisms into displays to encourage ongoing participation in that community.
