This is a renovation of a museum (approved for public use) attached to a research facility with the longest history as a buried cultural property research institute. Through valuable excavated materials from many archaeological sites in the prefecture, we have gained a deeper understanding of the history of Nara Prefecture, which holds an important position in the history of Japan, and the museum was reopened after a period of approximately three years.
In addition to renewing and renovating displays cases in the permanent and special displays rooms due to the deterioration of displays facilities, new displays such as a full-scale replica ceramic panel of the Horyu-ji Temple mural and the Takamatsuzuka Tomb mural (Asuka Village) were added, and the cylindrical haniwa corner of the Mesuriyama Tomb, the largest in Japan, was renewed. In addition, the museum's image song "Wind of Mizuyama - Tamayura" was created and the in-house broadcasting was renewed, realizing a renewal as a museum that can be enjoyed with all five senses.
In the entrance hall, we proposed relocating existing displays in order to accommodate the installation of new displays. We also proposed changing the layout and replacing the existing lighting as it had deteriorated.
Due to the deterioration of displays equipment in the permanent and special displays rooms, it was necessary to improve the environment inside the cases, including the lighting, make them airtight, install seismic isolation, and renew some of displays cases. In addition, the displays were based on explanations based on the academic standard at the time the museum first opened (1984), and although knowledge and collections have increased through the accumulation of research activities, the explanations had become outdated as they were not easy to update.
We tested the lighting inside displays cases, conducted a preliminary investigation of the specifications, and held repeated discussions with the curators under the guidance of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. We reused the existing cases, made them airtight, and renovated them using the latest materials. We also completely renewed the cylindrical haniwa (clay figures) corner from the Mesuriyama Tomb in conjunction with the seismic isolation renovation.
The explanatory information for signs and graphic explanations has been revised and updated to be clearer and more comprehensive in line with current academic research.
