The Jikei University Hospital Maternal and Child Medical Center Kids Comfort Project Creating a child-friendly space

The pediatric department entrance on the first floor and the treatment room on the fifth floor of the Maternal and Child Medical Center at the Jikei University Hospital have been renovated to create spaces that will make the hospital's charm and familiarity more apparent to child outpatients and their guardians.
The impetus for this project came from Professor Oishi Kimihiko, Medical Director of the Department of Pediatrics at the Jikei University School of Medicine, who, based on his experience working in the medical field in the United States, felt that the current space within the hospital was new and beautiful, but was it a comfortable place for the children? What about their families? And what about the staff working there?
Sega Sammy Holdings agreed with the desire of Professor Oishi and the pediatric ward staff to "enrich the lives of children in the hospital," and decided to support The Jikei University School of Medicine Hospital through content, Sega characters, and more.

Sega Sammy Holdings supported Professor Oishi's desire to create a "comfortable space," "a place where children could visit with peace of mind," and "an in-hospital environment that would ease their anxiety even a little." Our company was in charge of research, problem-solving workshops, planning, design, layout, and construction.

The concept of the project we proposed was "a hospital with a story."
The space and mechanisms are designed to help children undergoing treatment at the hospital to develop a positive attitude and the ability to face and overcome their own treatment. The aim is for children to enjoy original stories featuring Sega characters set in a hospital, become the protagonists = "heroes," and understand their own bodies and the treatment they are receiving together with the characters.

As a result of this project, children (patients) and their families who are hospitalized or outpatients at the hospital are very pleased with the changes to the hospital environment, saying that they can now come to the hospital with peace of mind, that their anxiety has eased and they look forward to coming, and that it feels comfortable.I think it is really great that the motivation of the hospital staff has increased when they hear such feedback.
