Tamarokuto Science Museum
overview
The Tama Rokuto Science Museum opened in 1994, underwent its first displays renovation in 2001, and its second renovation in March 2013.
In the 2013 renovation, we leveraged the double benefit of having the same person as the displays designer and designated manager, incorporating feedback from the science museum staff on-site into the planning and design process by NOMURA Co.,Ltd. 's planners and designers. As a result, displays rooms were completely reborn while preserving existing displays, and the environment became more user-friendly and easier to manage for the science museum staff working on the front lines.
Key features of displays design include the inclusion of three areas in each exhibition room: a "lab" where visitors can deepen their scientific learning through communication with staff; a "connecting spot" that disseminates information in collaboration with local talent, businesses, and academic institutions; and a "kids' space" that fosters intergenerational exchange. Through these features, displays displays remains "people-centered" and "continuously growing and evolving."
