overview

"Starbucks Reserve (R) Roastery Tokyo" opened along the Meguro River in Nakameguro, Tokyo. It will be the first store in Japan and the fifth store in the world, and each floor of the four-story store will have a different experience. Located in a vibrant and creative neighborhood, this charming concept design is inspired by the famous cherry blossom trees in full bloom along the Meguro River. The space concept design aims to fuse with the natural beauty of various parts of Japan, and is symbolized by the expansive glass surface that extends to the ceiling and the terrace seats where you can feel the warmth of the wood. In the atrium that extends to the 4th floor in the center of the store, there is a cask with a height of 17m that stores coffee beans, and the surface is covered with 121 copper plates that have been hammered by hand. Centering on the cask, pipes carrying coffee beans run around the store. The main bar on the 1st floor serves coffee with various brewing methods, and one of the attractions is the authentic artisan bread that you can taste at the Italian bakery "Princi (R)", which has landed in Japan for the first time. In the area where a large roasting machine is placed, you can enjoy communicating with the baristas and roasters over the counter. On the 2nd floor, the “Tibana Bar” offers a unique tea experience where you can experience a traditional Japanese tea journey. increase. In addition, the "AMU Inspiration Lounge" on the 4th floor of the top floor will be used as a place to casually talk about social issues, as a hub for local people, and as a coffee training facility.

Roastery Tokyo is the first Starbucks roastery to be built from scratch with a local architect.

【solution】

The area around the cask is decorated with a motif of cherry blossom petals inspired by the rows of cherry blossom trees along the Meguro River. The main body of the cask is concept design with a pattern that draws the line of sight upward, like the steam rising from the coffee. In addition, while incorporating traditional Japanese craftsmanship and material processing craftsmanship throughout interiors and furniture, we added a modern taste and sublimated it into a new concept design, such as a copper cask and origami motif ceiling. . We have created a space that surprises and inspires visitors and immerses them in the coffee experience.
