Sogetsu 90th Anniversary Akane Teshigahara Solo Exhibition
[Outline of the project]
The venue layout for "HANA SO," a solo exhibition by fourth-generation head of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, Akane Teshigahara, held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the school.
Usually, the displays are decided in advance and the artist thinks about how to best utilize them in the space.
For this displays the head of the school proposed the reverse process, taking inspiration from the space and arranging the flowers.
Additionally, since the displays venue was the terraced rock garden "Heaven" created by sculptor Isamu Noguchi, it was essential for the project to make use of the space's unique features.
So we decided to cut a 0.5mm thick mirror-finished stainless steel plate into a series of diamonds, and then crease each one to cover the rock garden, creating an effect similar to "mirror ivy."
The ivy reflects the surrounding scenery while revealing glimpses of the texture and expression of the rock garden below.
The gaps in the glass cause the colors and shapes of the flowers placed in them to be diffused, creating a visual effect reminiscent of a kaleidoscope.
In this way, by inserting a new layer between the two "works" of flowers and rock garden, we hoped to bring about a new fusion and harmony, as if the flowers were gently embracing the rock garden.
This property was designed by our company's concept design team, "onndo(※)."
