overview

The Shizuoka City Museum of History is a place to "learn about Shizuoka's past, learn about the present, and think about the future. And think about the future. The museum is the first comprehensive history museum in Shizuoka City, and its purpose is to communicate the historical values and attractions of Shizuoka City to the public, to convey history more deeply to the citizens, and to foster a love of the hometown in children. We were involved from the basic planning stage, and were in charge of the 1st floor gallery and the permanent rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors displays displays and construction.

Issues/requests

As a core base for the ``City of History and Culture'' set forth in the 3rd Shizuoka City Comprehensive Plan, we would like to create a museum that conveys the charm of Shizuoka City's history and culture, centered around two military commanders, Tokugawa Ieyasu and Imagawa Yoshimoto. . At the same time, there was a request to create a facility that would contribute to the revitalization of the local economy through tourism exchange and other activities.

solution

From the perspective of promoting tourism, at the beginning of the project we conducted interviews with a wide range of citizens, including local chambers of commerce, local NPOs, and local history research groups, and reflected the results in the planning. In addition, when designing the building, we focused on history in line with the architectural design, while also creating a seamless displays design that conveys the feeling of ``the present and the future.'' Specifically, we created a large-scale video production using life-size, ultra-high-resolution photography that speaks from the visitor's perspective, and a sense of transparency that brings out displays materials in line with the museum's policy of ``operating displays using borrowed materials such as national treasures and important cultural properties.'' We also created a city model from the 1950s using photographs and maps collected from citizens.

Customer's voice

We have received comments such as the following from visitors.

・When I learned that Sunpu was very prosperous during the Imagawa, Ieyasu, and early Meiji periods, I became proud of it as a citizen.
・There were more sights to see than I had imagined. I learned about Shizuoka's past and felt the message that it is connected to the present. It gave me something to talk about with my son, an elementary school student, who was visiting the museum with me, and it made me feel proud as a person living in Shizuoka.
