Prologis Park Kitakami Kanegasaki
overview
Prologis, a leading global company in the ownership, operation, and development of logistics real estate, has opened a multi-tenant logistics facility, "Prologis Park Kitakami Kanegasaki," in Kanegasaki Town, Iwate Prefecture. We were responsible for the exterior graphic and sign concept design, as well as the basic concept design and design supervision of the customer lounge area.
Issues/requests
In order to address the recent surge in construction costs, we received the following three requests regarding the adoption of new building specifications that aim to reduce costs while maintaining essential functions:
① Building a rebranding concept design that creates added value
② Introducing sustainability-conscious ideas
③ Expressing regional characteristics with an eye towards future expansion to various regions.
solution
① In this project, we viewed the functional architecture of a warehouse as a "space for expression" that conveys the company's philosophy and stance, and aimed to visually represent the image that Prologis has built so far and the future image it aims to achieve.
In developing the exterior concept design, we carefully interpreted the elements inherent in the company's CI (Corporate Identity), inheriting the colors and rhythms while constructing new graphic patterns. This reflected Prologis's cherished values and individuality, while also reflecting their evolving corporate image in a changing society.
concept design incorporates elements of the Shippo pattern, a traditional Japanese motif. This pattern, which symbolizes human connection, harmony, and harmonious relationships, is reinterpreted from Prologis' unique perspective to abstractly express the company's commitment to its customers, its environmental friendliness, and its affection for the local community.
Furthermore, in this project, we extended the unique characteristics of the developed graphic patterns into the spatial concept design, creating a consistent worldview both inside and outside the building.
By incorporating our concept design philosophy not only into the exterior walls but also into the entire space where people spend their days, we aim to enhance the comfort of those who work there, while simultaneously conveying the caring spirit that we value as a company, creating a welcoming and familiar environment.
② and ③ Art panels using the same graphics as those used on the exterior walls were installed on the interior walls of the facility. These art panels were created using food waste, including asparagus, a representative agricultural product of the region. By utilizing locally sourced resources as materials and incorporating the unique background and stories of the area into the space, we achieved both a commitment to sustainability and an expression of local character.
A key feature of this initiative is that waste generated locally is recycled and reused as materials to make up the local space. Going beyond mere environmental considerations, it weaves the identity of the land into the space, adding new value to the facility itself and creating the potential for expansion to other regions.
Customer's voice
Not only the project manager, but also many employees participated, drawing inspiration from their own feelings about the company to create concept design. I believe it's a wonderful concept design that will serve as an opportunity to talk about what our company values with those who see the completed building.
