Noto Satoyama Satoumi Museum

The Noto Satoyama Satoumi Museum is a facility where visitors can experience the rich nature, wisdom of life, and history and culture nurtured in Nanao City. Rather than classifying the charm of the satoyama and satoumi (rural landscapes and coastal areas) into nature, history, and folklore, it integrates these fields and presents a multifaceted perspective. The museum offers various experiences that adults and children can enjoy, such as an immersive space surrounded by insect and shell specimens, displays explaining the mechanism of fixed-net fishing, an experience of lifting Noto winter yellowtail, and a drawer-style quiz. In the two-sided theater, the life and growth of a family in the satoyama and satoumi are depicted through beautiful seasonal images of Nanao, drawing visitors into the world of satoyama and satoumi. At the end of displays, the museum raises questions about the charm and challenges of satoyama and satoumi, providing an opportunity to think about the reality and future of these areas.

[Customer issues/requests]

Based on the value of 1300 years of life in Noto (nature, history, culture), we received a request to build a museum that creates the future, and to incorporate the perspectives of field museums, tourism, citizen collaboration, and local products. there was.

Satoyama and Satoumi are systems that allow people to coexist with nature they have nurtured and sustain themselves.
By integrating different fields and presenting information in a multifaceted way, we proposed a "Satoyama Satoumi displays" as a comprehensive academic project. We also fostered civic pride by incorporating tourist information guided by curators from a researcher's perspective, and videos featuring local residents. Furthermore, instead of simply displaying traditional crafts and local products from Noto Nanao as mere commodities, we elevated them into spatial concept design elements and expressed them in a unique way.
