overview

This project involved renovation work, including seismic retrofitting, for the Morioka City Library. After being closed for approximately two and a half years, it reopened on April 2, 2024. The library's concept is "A library where knowledge circulates and people and the city grow freely." Like the ecosystem of Takamatsu Pond that spreads out before it, the library aims to be a place where Morioka's knowledge and people naturally gather, connect, and circulate back into the community.
Our company was responsible for the planning, design, production, and construction of the facility's interior space, as well as the visual identity (VI), including the logo.

Issues/requests

The challenge was to improve the library's appeal and meet the needs of the citizens.
Specifically, they requested that the library be made more attractive to local residents by making the most of the limited space available, and that it be created in a space that reflects the essence of Morioka, and where anyone can study comfortably.

solution

We designed the space to ensure individual spaces through bookshelf layouts, incorporated signage and graphic concept design that reflects the unique character of Morioka, and devised a rotating display bookshelf that can accommodate handicrafts and other items.
