The Magical Literature Museum (Edogawa-ku Kadono Eiko Children's Literature Museum) preserves the imaginative, dream-filled worldview and achievements of Eiko Kadono, winner of the International Andersen Prize, which is said to be a small Nobel Prize for children's literature, for future generations. This is a public facility designed by Edogawa Ward to convey the message. It was created as a place to spread the wonders of children's literature to the world, and to encourage children to freely choose books, hold them in their hands, and develop rich creativity that will help them dream. For this project, our company was in charge of the basic displays planning, schematic design, and working drawings under Kengo Kuma Architects and Urban Design Office, and was also in charge of the subsequent displays production. *Entrusted with designated manager duties from the opening in 2023
Request from Edogawa Ward: By adding a facility inspired by the world view of Eiko Kadono, who is active in the world, to the culture of the residents that Edogawa Ward has built, we will further expand the ``Edogawa Ward'' I want to create a culture.
Basic concept of the entire business:
① "We will inherit Eiko Kadono's great achievements and the worldview of her stories as part of our city's proud culture, and communicate the wonders of children's literature." "We will create a place where children can freely enjoy books." The plan is based on the basic philosophy of creating a place to foster children's imagination and creativity through events and experiences.
② Perform integrated design construction of architecture, landscaping, displays based on basic concepts.
Based on the thoughts that Edogawa Ward and Eiko Kadono had for the museum, we were in charge of displays planning, design, and construction under Kengo Kuma Architects and Urban Design Office and art director Mario Kuboshima. As a method of embodying Eiko Kadono's worldview, in the introduction section of the facility, projection mapping that is linked to images of characters from her masterpieces is projected on the entire wall, and under the direction of Mario Kuboshima, the colors and shapes are displayed. ``Colico Town,'' which embodies the concept, has a mechanism that allows visitors to find ``their own favorite place.'' In addition, at the ``Black Cat Theater,'' visitors can experience interactive programs that expand their imagination. We designed construction constructed the graphics that convey the achievements and charm of Eiko Kadono based on the ``strawberry color'' that is the basic color of the main building, as well as the character formations in Nagisa Park.
Eiko Kadono and art director Mario Kuboshima were able to respond flexibly to a variety of opinions.
