Kawarayu Onsen Playground NOA / Kawarayu Onsen Station Campsite

This project is one of the projects for the residents of the submerged areas to rebuild their lives and find purpose in life as the Yanba Dam is constructed. For about six years, our company was in charge of basic planning, schematic design, detailed working drawings, supervision, and consulting to support local operating companies for the "regional development facilities" in the "Kawarayu area" and "Yokobe area". .
The Kawarayu area is a tourist spot with Kawarayu Onsen, which has been around for over 800 years, and is adjacent to JR Kawarayu Onsen Station. From the viewpoint of location characteristics, scenery, and business scale, we proposed a business of "station square campsite & BBQ (barbecue) x hot bath facility". While listening to the opinions of people in the district, Naganohara Town, and Gunma Prefecture, we will comprehensively provide everything from the establishment and support of the local management body to the invitation of partner companies to operate the campsite, consulting on business plans, and facility design, layout. planned and produced.
The facility consists of the JR Agatsuma Line as the border, the upper level is "Kawarayu Onsen Playground NOA" with a cafe and hot springs, the lower level is a plaza where you can enjoy BBQ and bonfire, a wood bath, a tent sauna, and canoeing and kayaking on the dam lake. It has become the “Kawarayu Onsen Station Campsite” where you can enjoy yourself.

[Business] It was necessary to unravel what it means to rebuild lives and create a purpose in life for local residents. Through repeated discussions with everyone, we found issues that aim to revitalize the area, such as coexistence with the hot spring town, promotion of local employment, especially for young people, and promotion of a U-turn of the outflowing population.
In addition, it was requested that the facility be differentiated from facilities planned in other districts and similar facilities, and to have the ability to attract customers and originality.

[concept design aspect] Taking into consideration the visibility of the bridge through which tourists visit the dam and from the opposite shore where there is a lot of traffic, we will attract passers-by with a concept design that is unique to this area, and have multiple uses (hot baths, restaurants, rest areas) , observatory, tenants, conference rooms, etc.) to create a facility that is easy to operate.

【solution】
[Business] The Yanba Dam project took 70 years from planning to completion, but there are arguments for and against the construction of the dam, and many residents have moved out. What I did was propose a multi-view, bird's-eye view business plan. Hearing various business ideas desired by local residents, making proposals for their feasibility, making adjustments for non-competition with companies in the surrounding area, and taking into account the differentiation of each facility, We aimed for a project that emphasized the character of the district.

[concept design] The concept is "Azuma River", which is the origin of the name of the former Kawarayu area. As we proceeded with the concept design, we received an opinion from the locals that it was like a "boat that floats with the community on board", and we made it a distinctive building that symbolizes the two concepts. The interior space has an elongated shape that extends east and west, and we planned a flow line and slope that draws a gentle curve that integrates various functions, making it an easy-to-use space that allows people to move around.
