KANDA SQUARE
overview

Kanda Square was planned in the Kanda area, where Sumitomo Corporation was founded for the second time. It is a landmark of Kanda, a 21-story office complex that was born as a challenge for Sumitomo Corporation to create a new town. We were in charge of interiors of the commercial zone on the first floor, the sign design, construction work, and furniture and fixture manufacturing.

[Customer issues/requests]

・Be able to feel the history and culture of Kanda.

・We want to attract customers other than office workers by considering the compatibility of interiors of the store with the surrounding area.

- We want to create an atmospheric space that combines modern concept design with traditional artisan techniques.

【solution】

concept design concept is "innovation and tradition." By adding new techniques to the traditional craftsmanship of the artisans and adding a light newness to the weight of Kanda's accumulated history, we aimed to create an innovative yet comfortable space that is accessible to everyone. In addition, we created a function that encourages the revitalization of a new community by allowing users to share and overlap "time, heart, and commitment," making it a symbolic place with "Square" and "Nishikikoji."

Sumitomo Corporation, designers, and craftsmen worked together to promote the project using a method called a "guild," in which they communicated directly. By having three craftsmen participate from the planning stage, the designer's image was further expanded, and collaboration between craftsmen led to the realization of ideas.
