overview

The Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum, which opened in 1970 with the aim of honoring and preserving the materials of Ishikawa Takuboku, one of Japan's leading poets in modern times, will reopen in 2025 with the addition of the Tamayama History and Folklore Museum. The two museums will be linked by the concept of "hometown," a word left by Takuboku, and the Takuboku Memorial Museum will focus on the Meiji period when Takuboku lived, while the History and Folklore Museum will focus on the 1950s, allowing visitors to see Tamayama in the present day.

The Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum uses the entire space to present a giant timeline depicting Takuboku's 26 years of life and the people who have been working to commemorate him since his death up until the present day. Below the timeline, you can see the collection for each era, as well as Takuboku's words from that time. The central symbolic displays displays the organ that Takuboku actually played, and on the large screen in the background you can choose to watch two original animations, "Takuboku's Life" and "Takuboku and His Hometown." There is also a special displays room and a book corner.

At the Tamayama History and Folklore Museum, in addition to displays folk materials donated by local residents, you can also view folk performing arts and natural scenes, which are preserved using video and information search systems.
In the corridor connecting the two museums, there is a multipurpose hall where lectures and workshops can be held, displays displays "Tsunagari Tamayama" where mini-projects can be held, and a "visible storage room" where part of the storage room is made of glass. From the windows, you can see the Saito family home where Takuboku once lived, and Shibutani Elementary School.

Issues/requests

There was a need to clarify the significance of co-locating the Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum and the Tamayama History and Folklore Museum, link them together, and develop the facilities in a way that would utilize their strengths and help revitalize the local area.

Among these, the Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum was required to appeal to the public with information and express displays unique to the place of his birth, and also to express his connection with the local community and his commemorative activities after his death. The Tamayama History and Folklore Museum was required to find a way to properly manage and utilize its important collection, mainly donations from citizens, so that it could be fully utilized rather than merely preserved.

solution

Ishikawa Takuboku described the area around where this facility is planned as his "hometown" in his diary, poetry, novels, and more. He also wrote about his love for the beautiful nature, and his words truly remind us of the treasures of the Tamayama region. Therefore, this word was chosen as the keyword that connects the two adjacent museums, and we have developed them as a base for passing on the "hometown" to the future.

The Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum held displays examined Takuboku's works and materials to determine how he perceived his "hometown," as well as introducing his connections with the local community after his death and the activities that were carried out to commemorate his death.

In order to preserve and utilize existing materials, both museums have implemented archiving using a database system. In addition to the collections and books, it is now possible to search for Takuboku's poem monuments and places associated with him across the country, as well as words, and at the Tamayama History and Folklore Museum, it is now possible to preserve and view intangible cultural properties such as folk performing arts, as well as natural and famous places. As for the main folk performing arts, we have taken measures to record videos and preserve them for future generations.

Part of the storage facility has been made into a glass-walled "visible storage facility," and an displays space has been set up where important collections can be displayed in rotation.

remarks

Regarding the spelling of "Taku" in "Ishikawa Takuboku," the correct spelling is "Taku" with fangs, but since it is expected that the appearance may differ depending on the viewing environment, this website uses the spelling "Takuboku."

Facility and employee information is current as of the time of opening. Please see the facility's website for the latest information.
