overview

Hitachi Origin Park is a new starting point for Hitachi, Ltd. and consists of four facilities: Kodaira Memorial Hall, Sogyogoya, Omika Club, and Omika Golf Club.
Among them, the "Odaira Memorial Hall" is a future-oriented memorial hall that enhances the engagement of all employees and general visitors, and is an exhibition that touches on the aspirations of founder Namihei Odaira, conveys the company's roots to all employees, and displays local residents to learn about the history of social innovation, which has continued to challenge itself to solve social issues with "harmony, sincerity, and a pioneering spirit." In addition, as a "place to think together about social issues" in the future, a participatory theater has been set up, where visitors can look back on past displays themes and express their displays for the future.
The "Founding Hut," the origin of Hitachi's founding, has been restored as a symbol of Hitachi Origin Park. The actual environment is displays with recorded footage and surround sound, allowing visitors to experience the realism of the time and leave a lasting impression on the visitors.

Issues/requests

1: We want to increase the engagement of our more than 300,000 employees while following displays of the old memorial hall that opened in 1956.
2: We want to create an environment that is flexible enough to change displays in response to the ever-changing history of the project.
3: We want to create a digital environment that allows us to communicate with all visitors, from global employees to local residents.
There were more requests than this.

solution

1: displays concept was set as "Employee Journey," and by constructing an displays story, we realized a hands-on, participatory displays that allows employees to empathize with the founder's aspirations and express their own determination to grow and realize the corporate philosophy, thereby increasing employee engagement. The prologue displays begins with an introduction that touches on the aspirations of founder Namihei Odaira, and is an experiential theater that takes visitors on a time trip from their daily lives to the time of the company's founding. The history displays story of social innovation depicts Hitachi employees who continued to challenge themselves to solve social issues with "harmony, sincerity, and a pioneering spirit" in their hearts, using a continuous gauze curtain throughout the space, creating an immersive space concept design that allows visitors to explore history with a sense of "floating through the scenery."
2: History of Social Innovation Taking into consideration the changing of themes, we concept design a seamless displays case and systemized displays explanations. The large gauze screen graphics that run throughout displays room use removable baton rails and function as a stage set that can be constantly updated.
3: As a place to think together about future social issues, we set up an interactive theater where visitors could look back on the previous displays themes and have an epilogue with thoughts for the future. By adopting an displays system that allows visitors to send their own messages, we have created an interactive theater that enhances displays with employees and general visitors both in Japan and overseas. In addition, all displays explanations are written in both English and Japanese, and digital content has been created to visualize the degree to which visitors empathize with displays themes that interest them and the messages on social issues.

Customer's voice

For this project, the people at NOMURA were in charge of planning and design, having gained a deep understanding of our group's corporate philosophy and founding spirit.
Due to the impact of COVID-19, most of our meetings were held online, which posed challenges in many ways, but your company was able to consider and propose displays methods that made use of its extensive knowledge and expertise.
We are confident that Hitachi Origin Park will be a place where employees and stakeholders can learn about our company's origins and look forward to the future.
