overview

Bridgestone Corporation has opened an innovation hub called "Bridgestone Innovation Park" in Kodaira, Tokyo. The central innovation center, "B-Innovation," is a facility that aims to further promote interaction between people inside and outside the company, turn empathy for Bridgestone into co-creation, and accelerate innovation.
Bridgestone Open Innovation Hub is the gateway to B-Innovation, a place where people can see and touch Bridgestone's core technologies and products and develop their ideas. We were in charge of planning, concept design, environmental production, and construction.
Furthermore, in close consultation with Bridgestone, we are designing operations and spaces based on behavioral science to lead people to the mindset they desire.

Issues/requests

As this was meant to be a valuable space for co-creation with visiting partners, the challenge was to design communication within the facility in a way that would allow discussions to be held without losing focus and with an open mind.
We also created a temporary "co-creation base" in a corner of a conference room in Bridgestone's existing building, and as a trial, we held repeated discussions with actual partners to identify communication and operational issues.

solution

The knowledge gained through the trials is being deeply reflected in the spatial concept design, fixture design, and content design.
Our goal was to create a co-creation facility that takes psychological safety into consideration and allows for effective communication in a short amount of time.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a space of mirrors and images that stimulate the senses, evoking the image of "creating a new world together with Bridgestone."
Meanwhile, displays area is a bright and open space with a white and wood tone to create a psychological state in which visitors feel comfortable speaking up. It is also dotted with circular tables and other features for casual breaks to encourage people from both inside and outside the company to gather and converse naturally.
