overview

Focusing on the lives and dreams of the people who played an active role in Himeji Castle, we proposed that visitors experience the value of the structures and objects by displays staging appropriate to the location, such as the armory of the main keep, the Watari Yagura (tower of the castle), and the make-up tower, and be moved by them. Specifically, in order to convey the charm of these structures, we helped create scenes of daily life and dreams along with stories of the people who played an active role at Himeji Castle, focusing on displays scenes and experiences displays that recreate the conditions of those days.

Issues/requests

Given the large number of tourists visiting Himeji Castle since its grand reopening, and the rapid increase in foreign visitors, we received a request to enhance the public utilization functions of Himeji Castle, thereby increasing visitor numbers and satisfaction, and ultimately contributing to further tourism promotion through the implementation of displays and other uses.

solution

We have made efforts to convey the story effectively through displays and interactive displays that recreate the conditions in which the equipment was used at the time.
We also took into consideration ways to reduce the operational burden on the staff and volunteer guides.
- Projection mapping that unravels the structure of Himeji Castle, a national treasure that is not actually visible.
- Constructing the life of Princess Senhime through video and the entire space, along with her kimono.
- Figures in a full-size picture scroll depicting the hardships and circumstances of the sankin-kōtai system at the time.
- Japanese armor and weapons compared to the rest of the world from an inbound tourism perspective.
