Indoor playground "mirocco" opens in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture on Wednesday, July 2nd | NOMURA, Ltd. is in charge of the overall production and operation of the space

A new indoor playground called "mirocco" will open in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. The aim is to create a place where not only children can play to their heart's content, but families and local people can also have fun together.
This facility was built by renovating the swimming pool and hot spring facilities at Tamarina, an indoor facility in 22nd Century Hill Park in Mansui, Kakegawa City, and renovating it into an all-weather playground. NOMURA, Ltd. is responsible for the entire project, from formulating the facility concept to design, construction of interiors, play equipment, and decorations, and operation. We will utilize our know-how in regional revitalization and facility management to operate this facility.
Additionally, as an independent DBO* project, NOMURA has implemented private investment in this facility, enhancing its appeal through the addition of play equipment, built-in furniture, signs and graphics, etc.
Facility concept/spatial concept design
The concept of the facility is "Let's create an inspiring everyday life." The name "mirocco" was decided by vote, with the intention of creating a facility that everyone will want to visit 365 (3=mi/6=ro/5=ko) days a year and where everyone can gather.
The four main areas are "Guru Guru no Yama" where you can play with play equipment, "Waku Waku Base" where you can play quietly, "Take a Break Lounge" where adults can relax, and "Crawl Field" where babies can play safely. In addition to these areas, "This Is Cafe", which has new stores in Shizuoka Prefecture, will open in Tamarina and offer a menu that is easy for customers of all ages to enjoy.
The interior design of the facility, playground interiors, benches, etc., are made from local resources. Environmentally friendly materials are used throughout, such as benches made from local felled timber, a craft space where scraps and waste materials are used as craft materials, and plaster walls made from Kakegawa soil.
*DBO: Design Build Operate is a business model used to develop public facilities. The public sector commissions private businesses to design, build, and operate the facility.

Overall floor image

left: Round and round mountain
This is the largest main area of the facility, where children can move their bodies and play on the playground equipment. By utilizing the excavation of the pool, we were able to create dynamic playground equipment that creates up and down movements. The complex playground equipment design, including net playground equipment, slides, and swings, fosters a variety of motor skills. In addition, artificial turf is laid around the playground equipment, creating a space where children can run around and play freely while enjoying the soft texture.

In contrast to Guru Guru Mountain, this is a quiet play area. It incorporates play activities that stimulate children's senses, such as crafts using scraps of interiors materials and waste materials, and playing house. We plan to continue to receive scraps and waste materials from Material Bank and local companies, and will hold a number of workshops and events with companies and local organizations. In the future, we plan to hold workshops in collaboration with Yamaha and Shiseido, who have factories in Kakegawa, and also hold events with Material Bank.

Aiming to be "comfortable for everyone," this is an area where not only children but also parents can relax. In the space separated from the play area, there is a sofa where parents and children can relax together, overlooking the courtyard.
right: Crawling Field
This is an area for 0-2 year olds and their guardians. The enclosed cushioned flooring means babies can play safely. There are many colorful toys with interesting sounds and textures to enjoy.
