NOMURA Co.,Ltd. opens "Creative Lab.", a future creation laboratory that explores the future of space through research, discovery, and exchange

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. 's in-house research and development organization, the Future Creation Laboratory, conducts research and implementation to update the value of spaces through collaboration with companies and research institutions. Currently, the company is working on six themes: Future Foresight, Sustainable concept design, Inclusion & Art, Regional concept design, Delight and Passion Studies, and Future Prototyping. In February 2025, the company renovated its office and opened a space called "Creative Lab.", which will serve as the Future Creation Laboratory's activity center.

"Creative Lab." is a space where people can connect with each other and conduct experiments and challenges to shape the future of space. The open 330m2 space has a workplace function where employees with various specialties can think about the future of space through cross-disciplinary dialogue and actually create prototypes, a showcase function where PoCs, demonstration experiments, and projects under consideration for implementation displays and made available to both inside and outside the company, and a community function that builds new relationships with outside the company through research activities. The flooring and racks that make up the space were also actually produced through corporate co-creation. Long-term usage will be verified and used to make improvements.

The Future Creation Institute will continue to update the space by creating new value through research, discovery, and exchange at the "Creative Lab."

"NOMURA OPEN LAB 2025"
As one of the initiatives utilizing "Creative Lab.", we held the "NOMURA OPEN LAB," a research exchange meeting to think together about the future of space. We held 22 talk sessions and presentations of various prototypes that could serve as ideas for solving social issues and inspiration for creativity. Over two weeks, more than 400 people from outside the company participated.

About concept design
concept design concept: CREATIVE DEPOT

"DEPOT" means a small logistics relay point for the rapid distribution of products. Our company aims to turn this space into a place where diverse ideas and hints for considering the future of space can be gathered, and at the same time, where prototypes can be rapidly created and proposed within the company and to society.

Introduction and verification of development products
The "Creative Lab." will feature products co-developed by NOMURA Co.,Ltd. and other companies, creating an environment suitable for everyday use. It will also serve as a showroom where visitors can try out the products for themselves.

Development example | Wood floor unit "WOOD FLOOR UNIT 3.2"

"WOOD FLOOR UNIT 3.2" (patent and design rights pending) is a new building material made from domestically sourced wood, jointly developed by six domestic companies, including NOMURA Co.,Ltd., Ltd., Mitsubishi Estate, and Rinrei. This product is a free-access floor made from CLT, and offers high design appeal with beautiful wood grain covering the entire floor, functionality that takes advantage of the high strength of CLT, and environmental contributions that help prevent global warming through the carbon fixation effect of wood. 1,300 sheets were installed in an area of 330 m2 at "Creative Lab."

We have been involved in the commercialization of "WOOD FLOOR UNIT 3.2" from the concept stage, supervising concept design and construction technical aspects and advising on details and construction methods to realize the proposed concept design for implementation.
