Presented two projects: "Being Furniture" and "scape fold," a collaborative work between CYUON and Naoto Ogawa (NOMURA)
NOMURA will be participating in DESIGNART TOKYO 2024, which will be held from October 18th to 27th, 2024, with two projects: "Being Furniture" and "scape fold," a collaborative work between CYUON and Naoto Ogawa (NOMURA).
Our company's vision is to "open up all possibilities for space starting from the 'creativity' of each individual," and we are working to create spaces that enrich people's hearts. As part of this, we continue to exhibit at design events both in concept design and overseas in order to tackle the social issues we face from a creative perspective and create a cycle of communication, exchange, and innovation through our output. We will also be taking on the challenge of "DESIGNART TOKYO" with new members, following on from last year.

"Being Furniture"
"Being Furniture" is a project that reconsiders the relationship between people and objects. Seven in-house designers active in different fields will exhibit three pieces of furniture that were concept design through repeated dialogue and thought. We create many things every day in the course of concept design spaces, but we also feel a great sense of challenge in the fact that things are discarded or no longer used while still fully usable. How will we interact with furniture when it changes from a "being" to a "being there" presence? Through a series of experimental concept design, we ask society about the transformation in value between people and objects.
"Scape Fold" is a collaboration between designer Naoto Ogawa and powder coating professional CYUON. This is an art piece that challenges new expressions by using metal, which is attracting attention from a sustainable perspective as a material with low environmental impact, and the color development of the paint.

CYUON x Naoto Ogawa (NOMURA) collaboration work "scape fold"
Based on the main theme of "DESIGNART TOKYO 2024," "Reframing: The Beginning of Transformation," we hope you will come and experience a collection of experimental works that have been born out of new realizations and chemical reactions, born out of collaborations between designers and manufacturers.
displays work "Being Furniture"
This project reconsiders the relationship between people and objects. When concept design spaces, we feel that it is a big issue when the things we create are discarded or no longer used while still fully usable. When we think about a situation in which an object is used for a long time and with care, a relationship that gives rise to an attachment to the object can sometimes be created.
Before we know it, we have gone from "owning and using" things to caring about them and "being with them." This project was born from the idea that noticing this change in sensation could be one way to solve the problem. If furniture changes from something that "just exists" to something that "is there," how will we interact with it? Through a series of experimental concept design, we question society about the transformation in value between people and objects.

dohdoh | Difficult chair
"It'll be a bit of a burden, but please let me ride."
Everyone has their own way of sitting. What if, as the rider and the furniture explore each other, they develop a sense of attachment to the seat through their own sense of style?

iii | Whimsical Table
"Can I post it?"
The whimsical tables that make you wonder if they will put this on. They spit things out, lose their balance, and somehow manage to hold things up. I wish I could get along with these unreliable yet adorable creatures.

sorosoro | Lighting for a relaxing time
"It's about time to light up" "It's time to rest"
A table lamp that makes you want to say, "This is a great furniture item." Furniture has the same amount of time it is used as it does not. What if there was furniture that worked hard and slacked off, just like humans work hard and rest?

CYUON x Naoto Ogawa (NOMURA) Collaborative displays "scape fold"
CYUON is a project by powder coating factory SIRIUS in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, that challenges new possibilities in powder coating. For DESIGNART TOKYO 2024, Naoto Ogawa, who has collaborated with SIRIUS on wedding facilities and residences, was appointed as the designer.
The possibilities of expressing gradation through powder coating are unknown. This work expresses the unique texture of the metal material by enveloping it in transparent color and its excellent coloring, and uses stainless steel, which is often used for interiors. Please come and see the challenge of Japanese technology cultivated through manufacturing.
