NOMURA was in charge of the basic concept, design, layout, design supervision, and construction of THE SUMO HALL Nichirakuza OSAKA, a sumo entertainment show hall for inbound visitors, which will open on the 8th floor of Namba Parks in Naniwa-ku, Osaka City on Thursday, May 30, 2012. We participated in the project from the initial stages of commercialization and assisted in the creation of the space as a partner to the client.

"THE SUMO HALL Nirakuza OSAKA" is part of Hanshin Contents Link Co., Ltd.'s inbound business. It was established as a facility that creates opportunities to experience the culture and charm of "sumo," which is also popular among foreign visitors to Japan. As a permanent entertainment restaurant, you can enjoy an overwhelmingly powerful sumo show by former sumo wrestlers while enjoying a meal, and it is performed every day in English. Former sumo wrestlers who are still training today, including actors from Hollywood movies and the popular Netflix drama "Sanctuary," will perform performances. You can also actually step onto the dohyo (stage) and enjoy the experience of wrestling with former wrestlers and taking commemorative photos.

The space is filled with a life-size sumo ring and other elements and colors of sumo culture and traditional Japan, creating a sense of authenticity. The contrast between the sumo matches and the modern production, which links sound, lighting, and video, creates an even more uplifting feeling. concept design maximizes the value of the offering, fusing the appeal of Japanese culture with a one-of-a-kind experience.
Through our sports and entertainment spaces, we will continue to provide exciting spectator experiences that can only be enjoyed here and now.

The restaurant zone is in the form of a stadium. The original concept design curtains and the life-size sumo ring, measuring 60cm high and 6m on each side, create a striking presence. Attention was paid to even the smallest details, such as the straw in the ring. Spectators can enjoy the spectacular matches up close.

The show, performed by former sumo wrestlers, will include an explanation of sumo culture, history and rules in English, as well as spirited matches and practice bouts. At the end, spectators can also step onto the ring and experience the action themselves (limited number of participants).

The idea for this project started during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and we have been accompanying our customers on their new challenges for four years, and today we are opening. This facility required renovation of the former chapel and ingenuity to ensure that the change in business model was not felt, but we expect that there will be an increasing demand for renovations with an eye on inbound tourism and experiential entertainment of Japanese culture in the future. We would like to use this experience to contribute to future developments. We hope that this facility will be promoted to the world and that sumo culture will further spread.
