Historia Maebashi, an entertainment facility that conveys the history of Maebashi, opened on April 26, 2024.
Maebashi developed as a castle town, known by Tokugawa Ieyasu as the "Flower of Kanto," and has since overcome many crises through the power of its people, including the collapse of Maebashi Castle due to erosion by the Tone River, the abolition of feudal domains and establishment of prefectures following the Meiji Restoration, the cessation of operations in its main industry, silk reeling, due to the Great Depression, and the destruction of 80% of the city center in air raids during World War II.
The museum was established with the hope that it would serve as an opportunity to trace the history of Maebashi through interactive and immersive video, and to think about the future of the city. NOMURA is responsible for the planning, design, layout, and construction of the museum.
Maebashi City has received certification for the "Maebashi City Historic Landscape Preservation and Improvement Plan," and has decided to work on historical urban development for 10 years starting in 2023. "Historia Maebashi" is a public-private partnership project between Koshidaka Projects Co., Ltd., Maebashi City, and Maebashi West Rotary Club, and aims to become a core facility for revitalizing Maebashi City under the "Maebashi City Historic Landscape Preservation and Improvement Plan" by unearthing Maebashi's history and creating new value.
