Shizuoka City PFI "(Tentative Name) Shizuoka City Ocean and Earth Comprehensive Museum Development and Operation Project": A group led by NOMURA Co.,Ltd. has signed a business contract.

The group, with NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. as the lead company, has been selected as the successful bidder for the "(tentative name) Shizuoka City Marine and Earth Comprehensive Museum Development and Operation Project," which Shizuoka City is planning as a PFI* project. The group has established a special purpose company (SPC) "Shizuoka Marine Culture Network Co., Ltd.," and today, February 20, 2023, with the approval of the city council, has concluded a business contract (main contract) with Shizuoka City.
This project involves constructing a new "comprehensive museum on the ocean and the earth," which will combine aquarium and museum functions and be a unique facility only possible in Shimizu, on land adjacent to the cruise ship terminal at Shimizu Port in Shizuoka City. The aim is to open it to the public in April 2026.
NOMURA Co.,Ltd. will participate in this project as the lead company in a PFI (Private Finance Initiative) project for the first time, and will be responsible for displays production and operation.
The concept of the project is "Campus for everyone connected to Suruga Bay".
Through encounters with diverse life forms and people connected to Suruga Bay, the deepest bay in Japan, we will convey the joy of exploring the connections between the global environment, the ocean, and people. Various people involved in the ocean, including JAMSTEC and Tokai University, will participate in this facility as the core, and we plan to carry out business activities such as research, exchange, creation, and dissemination. In addition, in cooperation with academic research institutes, local companies, community development organizations, etc., we will expand the field of activities not only in the facility but also in the city of Shimizu and Suruga Bay. We will aim to realize this.
